Pharmacists and techs aren’t being included in these pray for our nurses, doctors, medical staff posts. But I assure you, we are on the front lines, too. Our ...business won’t close and I’m so thankful I get to help those in need! To give you some insight... In my 12 hour shift today, I ate a protein bar and grazed on a handful of chips because it’s the only thing I had time for. I took one bathroom break... over halfway through my day. I filled 50% more scripts than usual and took at least 50% more phone calls from people trying to track down toilet paper, thermometers, and hand sanitizer. That’s not to mention the hundreds of people in my supermarket shopping for items that have been sold out for 2 weeks who come to the pharmacy for assistance. We’re fielding questions that have no answers at this point. We’re negotiating early refills for those who are self-quarantining and trying to police those trying to take advantage of the situation. We’re trying to follow sanitization procedures around the clock when literally there’s barely time for hand sanitizer in between patients. I’m handling dirty prescriptions, money, getting coughed and sneezed upon, and giving vaccinations to people who didn’t think it was prudent just a few short months ago. P.S. The pneumonia vaccine will not prevent coronavirus and you should have already had your flu shot!!! We are the most accessible healthcare workers- our phone lines ring straight through and you can literally walk in and talk to us at any point during our work day. These are stressful times for EVERYONE! I’m keeping my pharmacist friends, our techs, (and everyone else affected by the ripples of this pandemic) close at heart over these next few weeks. Lots going on, and... When that vaccine hits... I can’t even imagine.
