We are eight months into a pandemic and yet it feels like we are back at the beginning. Yet again, there are COVID-19 outbreaks affecting migrant workers on farms. Yet again, migrant and undocumented people are losing jobs as regions shut down. And still no action to save lives and livelihoods. Any day now, the federal government will release its ‘fiscal update’, a sort of mini-budget which will outline the government’s plan to ensure a just recovery. We already know their ...priorities: all but the Green Party this week voted against an NDP motion to create a 1% tax on individual wealth over $20 million. It is crucial that decision makers hear from you that there can be no just recovery without full and permanent immigration status for all. Immigrants without papers the Sans-Papiers have marched across France since 19 September and are arriving in Paris Saturday, October 17, to meet President Macron at l’Élysée, his official residence. They are demanding Papers for All, Close down detention Centres and Housing for All. Sans-Papiers collectives, 280 organisations including national unions and city councils have supported their movement in France, and so have numerous organisations in Europe and beyond. ... Outrageously, President Macron has refused to meet a Sans-Papiers delegation or even answer their requests, the police have so far forbidden them to reach l’Élysée. It is critical to support them. Like millions of other migrants including here in Canada, they demand the same rights, entitlements, and resources as everyone else. People have the right to reclaim the wealth that was stolen during slavery, colonialism and right up to the present day wealth that has enriched corporations, governments, institutions and the elite. While Sans-Papiers have been keeping society going during the pandemic, as carers, health workers, cleaners, agricultural workers, food deliverers and more, they have not been financially supported. Women Sans-Papiers pay an even higher price, doing more caring and survival work, facing more violence in the home and outside, and doing justice work protecting loved ones from racist violence and immigration controls. BREAKING!! Intimidated and fired for asserting his rights and speaking to the media, migrant farmworker Gabriel Flores refused to back down. With the help of other migrant workers, he took his multi-millionaire bosses at Scotlynn Farms to the labour board and won $24,000! But his case is just the tip of the iceberg. The immigration system is to blame for giving employers the tools they use to intimidate and punish workers. Join us in calling on Prime Minister Trudeau to Ensure Full & Permanent Immigration Status for All! SIGN THE PETITION: https://migrantrights.ca/status-for-all/

At 3am this morning, in a rare overnight sitting, Parliament passed a law creating new income support benefits - CRB (Canada Response Benefits) - to replace the CERB. The CRB excludes migrants without a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN). Hundreds of thousands of migrants who have not been able to renew our SIN because of delays in processing our work and study permits - even our Permanent Residence applications - are shut out. Undocumented migrants living and working in th...is country for years without status have been denied vital income support. We are in the second wave of COVID-19, and yet again, immigration rules are being used to deny protections to migrants. While the income support law has effectively passed, there is still a solution for us: granting full and permanent immigration status to everyone in Canada, thus guaranteeing a valid SIN. Take action and add your name: https://migrantrights.ca/status-for-all/

"First, the government could make good on its throne speech language that when people choose Canada, help build Canada, and make sacrifices in support of Canada, we should make it easier for them to formally become Canadian by instituting a comprehensive regularization plan. That would include establishing pathways to permanent residence and citizenship for all migrant workers and people with precarious immigration status."
