This week, the Explorers, Sr Explorers and Rovers are heading to Springwater Conservation Area for a game of manhunt. Always a favourite with this group! We are meeting at the corner by the school house. Current weather prediction is low teens for temperature, muddy from earlier rains, and bit of a breeze. Please dress for the weather and remember your face masks.

With the clouds mocking Scouter Jeff's plans for star gazing, our focus turned to knot tying! After a quick game of dodgeball, the Explorers and Sr Explorers were divided into three groups; each group practiced knots, then created three separate knots that went into a small box. In two weeks, those boxes are going to be used as geocache treasures!

Every week, we give our Explorers, Sr Explorers and Rovers a heads up on what we are doing. In part, it is so everyone comes prepared; but also, it's so parents can make the determination that the activity planned will be safe for their youth to attend. This week, the Rovers are meeting at Scouter Tim's for their chicken wing cook off tonight! King, or Queen, of the wings will be determined! If you don't know where Scouter Tim lives, please message us for the address. For th...e Explorers and Sr Explorers, we will meet regular time at Dan Patterson. If the clouds are agreeable, we will be doing some star-gazing. As always, please dress for the weather and wear your face mask. The hand wash/sanitizer station will be available on both nights.

Wow, what a busy meeting! We started with some lessons on raising the flag, setting up a stove and stringing a slack line. Then, we moved into survival kit building, and making jute twine wicks for fire starting. At the end, we enjoyed a small fire built by the Rovers. If you look carefully in the background, you will see the handwashing kit. All youth have to sanitize or properly wash their hands before we start our activities, and have to have a face mask on. So far, everyone is doing a great job!

What outdoor activity naturally leads to a safe, socially distant gathering? Fishing! Because you sure don't want to be less than 2 meters from the person casting out! Our Explorers, Sr Explorers and Rovers had an evening of fishing in the gorgeous early autumn colours, followed by a sunset hike through the park under the rising full moon. We even spotted a couple of four-legged observers!

Check this out! At our Explorers/Sr Explorers/Rovers meetings, we provide a hand wash station. We have fresh water, soap and paper towel for drying (no sharing towels), plus hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes. Our youth are able to wash their hands anytime as needed. All the youth and leaders wear masks for the meeting. We have anywhere between 14 and 18 participating each meeting, which is below the current outdoor gathering limit of 25. ... We are actively protecting our youth!

Way to go, Team One (A, N and A!) First group to find the location of the fire starting items using GPS on the trails, build a fire and burn through the green string. They each get raffle tickets for the special upcoming draws. Aslo getting tickets were W for finding four sticks the fastest, and R for his awesome demo of starting a fire with basic glint and steel. What are these draws? The first is a gourmet meal at camp for the winner, cooking and cleaning done by leaders.... The second is a pie to throw in Scouter Jeff's face!!! Next week, a little fishing.
