Yorkton Army Cadets 30.11.2020

On October 30th, the last Friday of the month, the 2020 Poppy Campaign officially started with the presentation of the first Poppy to our branch’s Silver Cross ...Mother, Bonnie Rushowick. Bonnie’s husband Geoff had the honour of pinning the first Poppy of 2020 into Bonnie in our annual ceremony held at the branch. The Memorial Cross (more often referred to as the Silver Cross) was first authorized on December 1, 1919 as a memento of personal loss and sacrifice on the part of widows and mothers of Canadian sailors, aviators and soldiers who died for their country during the war. Bonnie is honoured to have had her son Patrick serve with our Canadian Combat Engineers overseas in both Afghanistan and Haiti as well as in Kingston ON. Patrick passed away on June 11th, 2013 at the age of 28. We will remember him and we thank him for his service and sacrifice.

We are inviting Cadets, JCRs, staff, and families to share with us why you remember. Send us a message and we will share the instructions on how to participate ...in our virtual project. Starting November 5th, we will share the submissions, and show Canadians the strength of our youth, and commitment to remembrance. Canada Remembers

Did you know that the Legion sells pins for your poppy? Each pin is 2.00 and the proceeds go to the Poppy Fund, which directly supports Canada’s Veterans and th...eir families in need! Our Poppy Fund directly benefits many organizations and veterans right here in our community of Yorkton. With our Poppy Fund we are able to help our cadet cores, make local organization donations, fund bursaries, purchase medical equipment and so much more. If you would like to purchase a poppy pin center this year, our volunteers are offering a contact-less delivery in Yorkton! We will be doing a poppy and poppy center pin drive on November 1st! All you have to do is send us a private message on Facebook with how many pins you would like at 2.00 each, how many poppies you would like by donation, and your address. Then starting at 1:00 on November 1st, our volunteers will visit the addresses on our order list and exchange your order for cash in your mailbox! We want to make sure everyone is able to safely receive their poppies this year and we are ready to put in the time and work in to make it happen!
