Beavers and Scouts are looking for LEADERS! 2nd Rossland Scout Group (Scouts Canada) is up and running with Covid-19 precautions in place! However, we need leaders for our Beaver (5-7 yr) and Scout (11-14 yr) sections.... If we don't get volunteers to be leaders for Beavers, we will not be able to run the section. We have enough leaders to run Scouts but an additional leader would be a great help. A Leader (Scouter in Scouts Canada terminology) is requirement for Beaver, Cub, and Scout sections. A Scouter is the one who facilitates the programing for the youth in her section. This is done in cooperation with the other Scouters in the section. In order to become a Scouter, you will need to do: an interview, a criminal record check, and online training. If you enjoy the outdoors and you want to share your enthuasim with kids, please contact us! Please spread this message to anyone you think would be interested in being a Scouter. Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great and safe summer. I happy to announce that we plan to resume scouting in the fall. We are still getting ourselves organized but we hope to get things started in mid-September (hopefully earlier). Covid-19 is obviously still a concern so Scouts Canada taking a staged approach to re-starting. Stage 1 was virtual / on line scouting which we did in the spring. We are now in Stage 2 which allows outdoor meetings and limited group sizes. This... was all covered in an email you hopefully received from Scouts Canada on August 13th called Welcome Back to Scouting. Our leadership team will be creating detailed plan on how meetings will be conducted with associated covid-19 precautions. We will be sharing this plan with parents / caregivers prior to our first meetings. In order to help us plan, please register your child on myscouts. Once you have signed into myscouts, click sign up register on the top left (under my menu) Due to the cancellation of scouting in the spring, the scouting year end has been extended from Aug 31st to Dec 31st. This means that there will be NO registration fee until Jan 1st, 2021. We will be opening registration to the public in the near future so please guarantee your spot by registering now. A special note for parents / caregivers of Beavers as you know, Holly will not be continuing as a Beaver leader. We need parents to volunteer to be leaders in order for Beavers to happen this year. The good news is that Holly has agreed to assist in the transition. Despite the lack of leaders, I ask that you still register your child for Beavers so we know how many wish to return. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Yours in scouting, Tom Leask Group Commissioner 2nd Rossland Scout Group 250-362-7118
Here is an update for our Scout section. There will be separate updates for Beavers and Cubs.... Scouter Tom here. I will be responsible for the 2nd Rossland Scout section for the rest of the year while Scouter Parry will focus on the Cub section. Despite the activity restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 situation, there are still many ways you can progress in your scouting journey. ...Continue reading
