Yesterday was the last training night before the new year. We've wrapped up some training and got Christmas greetings from the Chain of Command. See you in the New Year! 2020 will finally be behind us. ______________... Hier soir était la dernière soirée d'entraînement de l'année. Après une soirée d'entraînement pour compléter le tout, le commandement à passer leurs voeux de Noël aux membres du régiment. On se voit dans le nouvel an! 2020 sera finalement derrière nous.

Last night, the regiment was back on training. 2 Battery was on their gunnery drills getting ready for more exercises while 1 Battery was familiarizing themselves with rifle drill! As the snow starts to arrive and we are all getting our winter tires and Christmas shopping, our troops are hard at work on their Basic Winter Warfare course. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the murder of a former member of the Regiment, MBdr Almas Elman (ret’d). She was an international aid worker focusing on social justice, women’s rights and rehabilitating children impacted by Somalia’s decades-long war. She was a friend, a leader, a soldier, a fighter for civil rights & liberation, a wife, a sister, a daughter, and a soon to be mother and she was brutally taken from this world. She made a lasting impact on our Regiment ...and is a continuing inspiration to us all. The regiment was busy this weekend doing dry deployments to prepare for upcoming unit exercises. Non-Commissioned Members and Officers all got mission essential training to further their skills. Gunners rehearse before taking part in vigil party duties on Remembrance Day. ---------- Les artilleurs se préparent pour faire partie du détachement de veille pour le Jour du Souvenir.

A Remembrance Day Ceremony will be conducted by The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery at the National Artillery Memorial. Due to restrictions put in place by the city of Ottawa and operating within the COVID-19 environment, the ceremony will be conducted by a maximum of 25 personnel, as per the city of Ottawa bylaws. Videos of key moments of the ceremony will be posted promptly on the 30th Field RCA Facebook page after the ceremony.... All gunners and family are strongly encouraged to attend this virtual act of remembrance as the content goes online, as are those who have been or are affiliated with the guns. __________________________________________________ Une cérémonie du jour du Souvenir aura lieu au monument national de l 'Artillerie, organisé par le régiment d'artillerie royale du Canada. En raison des restrictions mises en place par la ville d'Ottawa et opérant dans l'environnement COVID-19, la cérémonie sera menée par un maximum de 25, conformément aux règlements administratifs de la ville d'Ottawa. Il sera diffusé sur Facebook en plusieurs segments sur la page du 30e Field RCA et tous les artilleurs et leurs familles sont fortement encouragés à assister à cet acte virtuel de commémoration, tout comme ceux qui ont été ou sont affiliés aux armes. A limited number of gunners were at the National Artillery Memorial to take part in a short ceremony to pay honour to our brothers and sisters who paid the ultimate sacrifice for Canada. We never fail to say thank you and pay hommage to the gunners before us. The gunners were also blessed to have a 100 year old veteran visit the ceremony and speak about his experiences in Normandy and the Western Front.... ___________ Un nombre limité d'artilleurs était présent au monument national de l'artillerie afin de participer a une courte cérémonie pour payer leurs respect a nos frères et soeurs qui ont fait le sacrifice ultime pour le Canada. On sera toujours là pour faire hommage et remercier les artilleurs qui était la avant nous. Les artilleurs était aussi choyé de rencontrer un vétéran de 100 ans qui a fait part à la cérémonie et a partagé ses expériences durant la seconde guerre mondiale en Normandie.

Every year, the last Friday of October marks the first day CAF members, and Canadians wear a poppy. Although the poppy is primarily a visual pledge to honor Ca...nada’s Veterans and remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms that we enjoy today; contributions also directly support Canada’s Veterans and their families. 2020 has been especially difficult for The Royal Canadian Legion across Canada due to the pandemic. This year, traditional poppy boxes will be set up at approximately 25,000 locations, such as grocery stores and banks, with donors encouraged to pick their own poppy pins. Additionally, 250 locations will offer electronic pay tribute boxes that accept tap payments. People are also encouraged to donate to the campaign online. Members of 1st Cdn Div HQ will wear the poppy with pride from October 30 to November 11, 2020. # GetYourPoppy
