Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge

MIDNIGHT DEER RESCUE! It is very unusual to be able to even approach an adult deer. This girl is part of a very special herd. Living on a peninsula in the Kawartha's they have never had to fear humans. When this doe got into trouble, she actually let humans help her. With her leg stripped from being caught in a fence, this beautiful doe lay beside cottager Phil while he called desperately for help. Already late in the night, our SOH friends responded. A horse trailer with... cameras was hooked up and hauled to the site. Our girl was loaded and trailered back to SOH where she is treated immediately for myopathy and trauma. Tucked in a little hut in our deer pen, she is safe, but still critical. Her leg is very badly torn. Dr Cliff & Dr Sherri are discussing surgical possibilities while we battle to keep the limb alive and healing. The true miracle in the story is the fact that this doe is allowing us to treat her. SOME KINDA REHABILITATION CENTRE! Yup! That's us!! Finally released by the rescuers after several weeks in care at SOH. This Cooper's Hawk was hit by a car and suffered both head trauma and a fracture in his shoulder. With dedicated treatment, he recovered well and is now back in home territory ... FREE!! These are some of the moments that we work so hard for!
