Have you been wondering what the hype about grass-fed beef is all about?! Well, buckle up because September is here and it's time to get schooled!! Grass-fed beef has higher concentrations of antioxidants, vitamin E, beta-carotene, a fat called CLA (believed to have cancer fighting properties), and the long-chain omega-3 fats mostly found in fish. In fact, grass-fed beet can have upwards of 50% higher omega-3 levels than grain-fed beef! Grass-fed beef also just has less f...at overall. Because of this, a lot of grass-fed beef is leaner with less marbling properties. However, at Sage Creek, we raise Speckle Park cattle which are known for their incredible marbling when finished on grass! The result? Healthier cattle that make healthier (and tastier) beef! To give you a bit of perspective as to how grass-fed beef is different, all beef cattle are raised on pasture (grass) after they're weaned. Eventually though, conventionally raised cattle are sent from pasture to feedlot, where they're "finished" on a concentrated grain diet (usually corn) in an effort to fatten them up quickly for market. Our cattle, on the other hand, are fed grass in the summer and fodder in the winter A.K.A Hydroponic grass (with some hay for required fiber). They are also cell grazed through spring, summer and fall for the health benefits of the herd and the pasture! They are all 100% grass-fed, grain-free, antibiotic-free, and hormone-free!
