National Day of the Child 2020 commentated two historic events 1. United Declaration on the Rights of the Child in 1993 2. An adoption of the Convention of the Rights of the Child in 1989 This year the focus is #seenandheard #wehaveavoice... Check out the website www.nationalchildday.ca for suggested activities to do with your child. Don’t get to wear something blue or a blue ribbon to honour the day for our children. As well check out the Canadian Child Care Federation for more information. See more
Photo Day tomorrow starts at 8:30 am for individual photos.
Just because someone is an Owner or Director does not mean that they are an effective leader, while a new teacher may be demonstrating exceptional leadership skills amongst their peers. Comment below with some of your favorite qualities in a leader.
A short and sweet new video for International Children's Day: The great NEIL SEDAKA sings "Your Nose"! A home-grown collage featuring family and friends, to celebrate my new board book, from Workman Publishing.
Today is National Child Day... a day to celebrate a child’s right to be safe, healthy, have access to education and a quality standard of living. In our work a...t Children’s Services, and as a mother myself, I know how important it is for children to have a chance to grow and thrive in a safe environment. Each of us plays a role in protecting and supporting our youngest citizens, to ensure they are respected and have the opportunity to contribute to our future. #nationalchildday

The children in the senior room were being very observant as they watched educators continuously clean they decided they to would like to help. Educators were happy to have eager helpers and allowed children to take turns with soapy water bottles cleaning chairs, tables and even there own cubbies. As the children participated they decided to share the idea that they could help with other tasks such as laundry and vacuuming . The educators listened to there ideas and include...d them in daily tasks. This lead educators to the idea of creating a home like center that would included different cleaning and cooking tasks. Setting out loose materials such as sea shells, rocks and marbles as well as plastic food items pots, pans and dish ware the children were able to be creative in their cooking experiences. Laundry items and a washer, dryer and ironing bored were laid out in an inviting manner for the children to practice doing laundry. Observing the children play and be creative in this center have encouraged teachers to add various items to continue the childrens interest in this center. We know not all our wonderful family members get a chance to visit our classroom environment so we thought we would share some visuals with you today. We hope you enjoy and encourage you to let us know any ideas you may have to further their play in our homelike center. See more

Last week the TOT A Room children were intrigued by the lights and tables we brought in for them to wonder. They are learning what lights are, what they do, and the fun variety of colours they come in. As the week carried over to next we added fabric to the one table to bring more texture to the area, letter shapes, and a wooden rainbow to expand on their exploration of colours and lights. This activity also strengthens their fine-motor skills when they have to take their ti...me to learn how to connect the shapes together and build new shapes by using their imagination/creativity. THE WONDER CENTER also has other assortment of toys for the children to explore and play with to help their continuing developmental growth. Puzzles help strengthen their fine-motor skills, memorization to where the pieces go, and the recognition of colours and shapes. The children also have an array of musical instruments which will broaden their imagination/creativity through music and dance, gross-motor skills, socialization and taking turn (sharing). Finally, this area provides a sense of wonder and a safe place to relax and calm in a busy room which we all know children are. See more

This month the TOT A Room introduced our new automotive center, the center featured opportunities for imaginative play as well as fine and gross motor skill building. The children were excited by the new toys in the center just after room change and slowly started developing a familiarity with the new space while they investigated the new ball pit which the children used to practice gross motor skills such as throwing, bouncing, and kicking. Other invitations to play present in the center include the new train toys, various large and small vehicles such as cars, trucks, and airplanes, as well as the wood working fairy house which encourages the children to experiment with shapes and sizes of wooden platforms while exploring the concept of balance present while attempting to construct it in any way they imagine! Leanne, Justine and Amanda

Youre stronger than you realize.
Just wondering if there is any truth to this? Moms who are nurses at our Centre, can you confirm?
Update on the ABC Busy Bee out of school program: the busy bees room will be finished on Friday and moving back to the school age classroom. They will take the name Busy Bees with them. In partnership with the GPPSD, the program is only accepting children from the Avondale School in order to reduce the amount of persons entering the school side. We apologize for any inconvenience. Our main priority is to keep the educators and children safe during this unusual time.
Families thank you for ensuring only one designated parent comes into the Centre for drop off and pick up and for wearing your masks. We appreciate your support and have a great weekend!
There is a lost and found in the Junior room. If your child is missing clothes they may have it. Some brand name sweatshirts are gathering there
