Yesterday we were asked to help with transport of this little lady for our friends at the Alice Sanctuary located near Calgary. She will spend the night at our new North Haven location before finishing her journey to her new home with The Alice Sanctuary. ... INCOMING! Damsel and Marcus Need Your Help! Our Rescue Crew is on their way to assist two sweet dogs who are in desperate need! Poor Damsel was in such distress as her muzzle was completely engulfed in quills and Marcus had been hit by a car! Both were rushed to the nearest clinic where Damsel’s quills were carefully removed and she is currently receiving medication for her pain. The extent of Marcus’ injuries have not yet been determined but his pain is also being mana...ged until he makes it to Calgary, where he can be fully assessed by our Medical Team at the AARCS Veterinary Hospital. Since their journey is long, our two newest patients will likely spend the night in Edmonton this evening where they will rest before making their way to Safe Haven in Calgary. Pupdate! We received this sweet message from the family of one of our AARCS alumni and thought it was too sweet not to share! Hi there! Just wanted to send you guys a little update and our Roxy girl (previously named Truly). It has been just over 3 years now since Roxy entered our lives and we couldn't be happier. ... She is the sweetest snugglebug always looks for pets from everyone no matter where she is. She even managed to turn her "Grandma" into a dog lover despite all the hair she leaves behind after snuggles. She is incredibly gentle with everyone she meets. She has worked very hard to get over her aggression with other dogs and now loves to play fetch with other dogs at the dog park. We truly could not have found a more perfect dog to become a part of our family. Thank you so much for all you and your teams do. Wishing you all the very best this Christmas season! THIS JUST IN! 11 Cats in Need of Medical Attention Have Just Arrived at AARCS Safe Haven! Moments ago, after a long journey from a remote area with little access to veterinary care, 11 sick kitties arrived at AARCS Safe Haven. Their caregiver was doing the very best she could, but knew they needed help QUICKLY! Thankfully, a partner organization reached out to AARCS and was able to transport them to our Veterinary Hospital. These cats are now safe, but terrified. They... will be assessed by our Veterinary Team for conditions ranging from a bite wound and respiratory infections, to diarrhea and matted coats. Medical Case Highlight - Sparticat If anyone can, Sparticat can. This young feline had the odds stacked against her and yet she never gave up. Sparticat’s right hind leg was bent and twisted, the result of a congenital defect which also caused a severe dislocation of her stifle joint. ... We’ve never seen anything like it. Due to the extent of the deformation, we couldn’t save her leg and Sparticat had amputation surgery this week at AARCS Veterinary Hospital. She is recovering well and getting lots of love and attention from staff and caregivers! Sparticat is one of more than 350 cats in care at AARCS. Little Sisky recently came into AARCS care and is very scared and unsure of the world around her. Thankfully she has a foster family, including a sweet fur sister, who is committed to helping her learn how to dog. We received this heartwarming update from her foster mom Day 5: Sisky has found an emotional support dog of her own. Our foster fail Sable has taken upon herself to be there for her when she is scared. Sable is very sensitive and just knows when she needs her.... Sisky completely relaxes and falls asleep peacefully just by being near her. These golden girls have sure formed a beautiful bond through napping (lol) in such a short time and I hope it fills your hearts as much as it does mine. We rely on foster homes to help us get animals out of the shelter and into a more normal environment where they can decompress and, in many situations, start learning how to be a pet! A HUGE thank you to all our foster homes for the love, patience and care they show to animals waiting for their furever homes! Sisky isn’t ready for adoption yet, but when the world isn’t such a scary place she’ll make her debut on aarcs.ca/adoptable-dogs.

Sanderson recently came into AARCS care suffering from two broken legs. His foster mom says "He is in great spirits! Such a happy guy! Lots of energy and just the sweetest boy. Every day AARCS receives calls about animals in need of medical help and today was no exception. Meet some of the newest intakes who just arrived at our Safe Haven Veterinary Hospital. First up is Sparticat. This young feline came in with her right hind leg bent and twisted, the result of a congenital defect of her femur and a severe dislocation of her stifle joint. Sparticat is scheduled for amputation surgery next week. Our medical team has determined this will give h...er the best quality of life and a chance for a full recovery. Then we got the call about four sweet pups who got into a terrible tango with a porcupine leaving PIne, Billy Bob, Presley and Jace in really ruff shape. Dozens and dozens of extremely painful quills will need to be removed and it will take some time for their swelling to subside. The likelihood that more quills will surface is high. Lastly, meet Donovan who arrived with a very deep laceration to his right hind paw. We're not exactly sure what caused it but our medical team thinks it may be the result of a snare of some kind. The cut is large, deep and extremely painful for this poor boy. AARCS strives to ensure these animals will receive the medical care and attention they need and provides the opportunity to recover in loving foster homes. Sparticat, Pine, Billy Bob, Presley, Jace and Donovan each face extensive medical treatment and long journeys on their roads to recovery.
