When I went to Terra Madre in Turin, Italy in 2018 I heard a beekeeper present who kept bees in the mountains near Nice. He manages a unique sub-species of black bee that are endemic to the valley where he lives. The area is becoming less of a agrarian area and urbanization is destroying the native habitats for these bees. I was ...unable to accept his invitation to beekeep in the hills and cliffs of his home valley because of travel restraints, but I would LOVE to go there one day. The other location is Brazil! I met Jerônimo Villas-Bôas (@jereboas) also in Italy, and I learned so much about stingless bees and habitat conservation taking place in Brazil! Did you know that stingless bees actually ferment the honey to preserve it, instead of evaporating the water to preserve it? It has the most beautiful taste. Since the very beginning of ABC Bees, we have created courses, workshops, and events, for beekeepers looking to learn and grow. Through the years we have seen a number of our students go on to build their very own beekeeping businesses. Better Beekeeping Business is a monthly webinar series. We have a line up of 9 amazing speakers joining us. We will be joined by very knowledgeable business professionals that we have worked with as well as beekeepers with innovative and creative businesses. You’ll learn how to set your business up for success and you’ll hear advice from individuals that have gone through this process. Fun fact Friday: Did you know that beekeeping is thought to have begun in Ancient Egypt? Or at least that's the earliest known form of beekeeping.
