Progress Update: THE MGP HAS LANDED IN ITS NEST! The rolling road portion of the Moving Ground Plane (MGP) system is now married to the new nesting base frame. This marriage involved over 150,000 lbs. of precision machinery and assembly. Over the next several months, we will be installing & integrating the controls and intelligence to the entire system, bringing it to life. More to come in the near future.
ACE is the Eastern Ontario anchor location for the Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network, also known as AVIN. With our partners, we are developing the world's first cognitive wind tunnel to allow for never-before-done autonomous vehicle technologies testing and development. The AVIN collaborative network at ACE will generate the development of autonomous vehicle tech, access to tech and product development capabilities and advancements in technology that will improve services... for our communities. AVIN builds upon Ontario’s position as a world-leading automotive manufacturing and supply jurisdiction in addition to the large cluster of information and communication technology companies operating in the province. Through resources such as research and development funding, talent development, technology acceleration, and demonstration grounds, AVIN provides a competitive advantage to Ontario-based C/AV companies, allowing Ontario to reinforce its position as a North American leader in transformative automotive, transportation and infrastructure system technologies. There are six Regional Technology Development Sites (RTDS) across Ontario. #ace #avin #autonomous #vehicle #future #network #testing #engineering #interesting #development #partners #universitycampus #oshawa #canada
The ACE Wireless Environment can enhance and fast-track the development of autonomous vehicles, connected vehicles and wireless automotive systems. We have created the environment to test the performance of AV sensors and antennas in a full-scale automotive environment and the performance of radar systems under severe weather environments such as a snowstorm. Our Wireless Environment also has transmission and emissions of information; including indoor GPS, DSRC, antennae power, Radar and LiDAR system signal degradation measurements. #wireless #environment #gps #avin # autonomous #vehicle #radar #full-scale #engineer #interesting #performance #lidar #signal #system #climate #testing #automotive #future #smart
With Hybrid vehicles becoming a trend in the Automotive Industry, it's good to educate yourself on them. Hybrid cars combine the power of at least one electric motor with a gasoline motor to move the vehicle. This concept leads to less gas burned while driving and better fuel economy. With electric power, there is instant torque to the drivetrain, depending on transmission. The battery is replenished by capturing energy from deceleration that is typically lost to the heat gen...erated by the brakes in conventional cars or can use the gas engine to charge and maintain the battery. Car companies choose to use different types of hybrid, depending on consumer needs. #green #engineering #electric #hybrid #cars #automotive #testing #aerodynamic #yaw #thermal #management #fast #charging #windtunnel #ace #ontariotechu #hyundai #temperature #interesting #savetheplanet #research See more
Solar panel research and testing occurring in the Large Climatic Chamber. There are 174,000 terawatts of energy consistently striking the earth as solar radiation at any moment, even on the cloudiest of days. Solar energy is energy harnessed from the sun's radiated heat and light making it a renewable and free energy source that can be converted into electricity using solar photovoltaic technology. #testing #research #solar #energy #renewable #engineering #technology #sun #ontario #canadian #electricity #ace #windtunnel
The Small Climatic Chamber is ideal for testing for temperature and humidity and product climatic validation. Like the Large Climatic Chamber, temperatures can reach a high of 60 degrees Celsius and a low of -40 degrees Celsius with humidity levels of up to 95%. This is great for testing cold/hot starts on vehicles, material durability and human performance trial testing. This chamber also offers plug-in outlets for hybrid and electric vehicles and can comfortably hold two vehicles. #windtunnel #ace #university #ontariotechu #temperature #testing #automotive #hybrid #electric #small #vehicle #engineering #technology #facility
The Innovation Garage is an addition to ACE where students from the University and clients from the Industry come together to assist in today's developing technology. Since ACE is located on a university campus, there are more resources to help with developing technology. This gives students hands-on experience working with the Industry to get them ahead of the game in their future endeavours. #students #university #technology #engineering #industry #automotive
ACE has two unique Climatic Chambers. The large Climatic Chamber is well-known for its long test section that accommodates vehicles as large as an articulated bus. Within the Climatic Chamber, there is a Mustang 1,000 horse-power chasses dynameter, as well as, a solar array to simulate the sun. Temperatures can reach a high of 60 degrees Celsius and a low of -40 degrees Celsius with humidity levels of up to 95%. Not only that, but since it connects to the small Climatic Chamber and the Climatic Wind Tunnel, there is an option that permits the insertion of a test bench to effect a 'three-chamber' mode during testing. #windtunnel #ace #university #ontariotechu #temperature #testing #dynameter #automotive #bus #large #vehicle #engineering #technology #facility
Our hemi-anechoic chamber and multi-axis shaker table can shake, rattle and roll prototype objects to ensure durability. The walls are shaped uniquely to absorb and break up sound waves, which helps the test microphone to pick up any squeaking and rattling coming from the object being tested. This chamber can be used to test for lifecycle testing of HVAC and Automotive components, as well as air turbulence and uneven-surface landing simulation. #mast #windtunnel #chamber #technology #engineering #university #interesting #hvac #turbulence #automotive #ace
