I don't get too many opportunities to photograph family portraits these days, however I never turn down an opportunity to get outside and create some fun photos. When Michelle asked me if I would take her family's fall photos, I jumped at the opportunity. It's always a great time getting outdoors and capturing everyone's smiles.

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of accompanying some of my coworkers as they partook in the Paramedic Memorial Bell ride around Kawartha Lakes. The Memorial Bell honours those paramedics who have fallen in the line of duty. The official Memorial Bell won't arrive in our area until late in November, but as it is currently making it's way through the province, it was an opportune time to take part in the memorial ride. The final image of my mother from this weeks series. I’m so grateful that she agreed to be a part of this project, and hopefully she’ll be open to having her portrait taken again sometime in the future.

As I look at this portrait of my mother, I can only think of one word to describe it, timeless. This is the kind of portrait that I feel will still hold the same presence for years to come. As I work my way through this project, I have come to realize that this is what I want to create. I want to capture and create portraits that years from now people can look at and get a sense of the subject, who they were and what they were like, even if they never even knew them.

This weekend my mother agreed to be photographed as part of my project, which is something as she always says that she doesn’t like how she looks in pictures. I thought this would be a great opportunity to show her the difference between having a snapshot taken at random vs having a portrait crafted from lighting to posing to getting just the right emotion to come through.

For our last image I wanted to create something fun that showed off something of what Tyler does with his photography. As Tyler does a lot of light painting work and uses various lens balls to create his artwork, I thought it would be fun to try and incorporate an element of that into his final portrait.
