The Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) has now launched! Canadian businesses, non-profit organizations, or charities who have seen a drop in revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic may be eligible for a subsidy to cover part of their commercial rent or property expenses, starting on September 27, 2020, until June 2021. This subsidy will provide payments directly to qualifying renters and property owners, without requiring the participation of landlords.... If you are eligible for the base subsidy, you may also be eligible for lockdown support if your business location is significantly affected by a public health order for a week or more. Find out more and apply here: https://www.canada.ca//services/subsidy/emergency-rent-sub

It’s National Housing Day. This year, our focus is on our government’s commitment to end chronic homelessness in Canada. We are delivering 3 new chapters to our ambitious National Housing Strategy: an Urban, Rural, and Northern Indigenous Housing Program; the Rapid Housing Initiative; and, stronger capital support for social and co-op housing. We’ve also appointed the National Housing Council (https://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca//government-canada-announces-m) to frame and hold go...vernment to account on the rights-based approach to housing, and we have also opened up applications to appoint a Federal Housing Advocate to make sure the right to housing is realized by all. As we look ahead, let’s say thank you to the front line staff working to shelter the homeless while also battling through the overdose crisis to keep so many people safe. Please know that your work is valued and that your contributions to better housing are celebrated. * Some photos taken pre-COVID pandemic *

It's #NationalHousingDay, a day that reminds us how important it is to have a home. For 1.6 million Canadians, accessing adequate affordable housing is a challe...nge. These issues have only been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that housing matters during COVID-19. We believe that everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Comment here and tell us why housing matters to you during this pandemic.

Fort York Food Bank is one of the critical pieces of community infrastructure this weekend as COVID-19 changes how Thanksgiving is celebrated. By utilizing not-for-profit emergency funding streams by our federal government, the food bank was able to hire staff and build a large walk-in fridge to serve more nutritious food and reach isolated seniors. These improvements will help to combat food insecurity in our community. Find out more about the work that the Fort York Food Bank does here: https://fyfb.com.

Today, we stand with Sisters in Spirit vigils - virtually - to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit peoples. We grieve with families and communities whose mothers, daughters, aunties and cousins are tragically no longer with us. It is because of the courageous women, families and allies who fought for answers and for change, that the National Inquiry was launched. We must all confront and meaningfully address the racism... towards Indigenous women and girls and LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit peoples. Today is a difficult day. Please always remember that help is available when you need it. Immediate support is available for all Indigenous people in Canada: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Support Line: 1-844-413-6649 Hope for Wellness Help Line and Chat: 1-855-242-3310 and hopeforwellness.ca

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time where friends and families come together with their loved ones to light colourful lanterns and share traditional mooncakes, and is a time to celebrate and recognize the many contributions the Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Asian communities have made to Canada.
