Did you know? Many fashion items in Adelaide’s time promoted a kind of social distancing. From gloves, to large skirts and hats, to the secret language of parasols and handkerchiefs... Schedule a visit at our museum to see our current exhibition!
Can you guess how someone in Adelaide's family might have used this object? Hint: a similar type of device made from plastic became a popular toy for children in the late 20th century!
Today's "What Am I?"... Can you guess what people used the back of this chair for?
Adelaide's best-known quote speaks to her belief that women were the backbone of the nation and should be educated on how best to keep a home and raise a family. ~ While feminism may look much different today than in Adelaide's time, there is no doubt that her legacy has inspired generations of strong women to pursue higher education and care for others.
Every once in awhile, things change here at the Homestead. Putting up new wallpaper, moving furniture around... and in the case of a pandemic, adding some precautionary vinyl covering! (But don't worry, that part is only temporary ) This vintage photo shows what the parlour room looked like prior to some big changes in the 1990s. Do you remember when it looked like this?
Starting a Monday tradition here at the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead! Can you guess what special purpose this teacup served?

Happy World Bee Day! Every individual can contribute to the preservation of bees and other pollinators: Plant nectar-bearing flowers for decorative purposes o...n balconies, terraces, and gardens. Buy honey and other hive products from your nearest local beekeeper. Raise awareness among children and adolescents on the importance of bees and express your support for beekeepers. Set up a pollinator farm on your balcony, terrace, or garden; you can either make it yourself or buy at any home furnishings store. Preserve old meadows which feature a more diverse array of flowers and sow nectar-bearing plants. Cut grass on meadows only after the nectar-bearing plants have finished blooming. Offer suitable farming locations for the temporary or permanent settlement of bees so that they have suitable pasture; as a consequence, they will pollinate our plants, which will thereby bear more fruit. Use pesticides that do not harm bees, and spray them in windless weather, either early in the morning or late at night, when bees withdraw from blossoms. Mulch blooming plants in orchards and vineyards before spraying them with pesticides so that they do not attract bees after being sprayed.
