A grease trap (also known as grease interceptor, grease recovery device, grease capsule and grease converter) is a plumbing device found in commercial kitchens, designed to intercept most greases and solids before they enter a wastewater disposal system. They can be located above ground, below ground, inside the kitchen or outside the building, but always between the kitchen sink runoff and drainage entering the sewer system. Grease traps reduce the amount of fats, oils... and greases that enter sewers. It slows the drain water down and allows time for the grease to separate out of the water and rise to the top so it’s not flushed into the drainage system. They can range in size from 35L to 45,000L or more. Grease traps need to be sized appropriately for the flow of water it intercepts to be the appropriate volume. If grease traps aren’t sized correctly, you can run into a lot of problems. What problems?! Why does it matter?! Grease traps are basically a small septic system. Fats are very slowly digested and broken down by microorganisms in a naturally occurring digestion process, keeping the environment in a balanced state. This process does not require any intervention. However, the natural environment of a grease trap can be unbalanced with too much grease/fat/oil or if things like food scraps or other chemicals run into it. Also, if a grease trap is not sized correctly, the natural environment of the trap will be overloaded, and will require intervention.... Such as emptying or unplugging it. The most common work we do with grease traps: proper sizing and installation, as well as unplugging it if it’s not functioning properly anymore. Was this information interesting/useful? Have you ever had to clean one? We’d love to hear from you down in the comments! ______ Need some work done? Give us a call! (807)-62ADEPT (622-3378)

Thank you Breakfast Lunch & Deener for the shoutout! So last week was challenging.... there were A LOT of obstacles to overcome. To top it all off, on Saturday evening when we started the pre-Meal-Prep-prep shift, we noticed our oven was not working I called up our Plumbing Expert Trevor, from Adept Plumbing & Mechanical , who literally showed up without any hesitation within 10 minutes of me calling.... and stayed FOR ALMOST 3 HOURS ON A SATURDAY EVENING to help us fi...gure out AND to fix it the problem. If it wasn’t for Trevor, I honestly don’t know that we would have been able to Meal Prep this past weekend. I can’t thank Trevor enough for what he’s done for me and Breakfast Lunch & Deener in the past year... If you’re in need of a friendly, reliable, extremely knowledgeable, very experienced, genuine Plumber, he is your guy.
