I doubt there is a time in our living memory when Nova Scotia has faced such a horrendous tragedy, adding to the already tremendous challenge from the pandemic.... Across our province there are hundreds, maybe thousands of people who play bagpipes. The pipes are so much more than an instrument. They have served to lift the souls and rally the spirits in the most difficult times. How inspiring and soul restoring it would be if all pipers across Nova Scotia were to go to their front steps balconies street corners or any place where they can be heard at 8 am Friday morning and play Amazing Grace. We could all find something in our hearts and souls to carry us through this time. If you are a piper or know one please share this idea with them. UPDATE The response has been nothing short of amazing. Today, Wednesday April 22, CBC Radio had a wonderful piece on the afternoon show Mainstreet featuring me and one of the province’s most accomplished pipers Ian McKinnon. I have heard back from many pipers across the province who will be participating Friday morning. Thanks to all for spreading the idea.
