Soft Tissue Release (STR) is a dynamic and effective technique that has an immediate on muscle and connective tissue. STR is a combination of Myofascial Release, Therapeutic Massage, and Active Assisted Stretching. The technique involves applying precise pressure during a specific stretch performed in multiple planes of movement.... This leads to spontaneous release of the injured muscle, thus regaining the original resting length of that muscle. The result of this treatment is reorganization of scar tissue, targeted muscle(s) returning to the proper resting length, muscle imbalances corrected, associated pain is decreased or eliminated altogether, and muscle performance is improved. These techniques can be applied to soft tissue injuries in both acute and chronic situations. STR can be incorporated into any type of therapist-assisted stretching or manual therapy during your kinesiology session. If you have been injured in sports, at work, an MVA or your injury has been incurred over time, you can benefit from STR. Book with Melissa for Soft Tissue Release online. Link in bio! See more

TAKING CARE OF YOUR PELVIC FLOOR with PHYSIOTHERAPY in KELOWNA As part of our core, the pelvic muscles need to be well taken care of to ensure good core function. If muscles aren’t activating properly, a patient may experience urinary, bowel and sexual malfunctions. Pelvic floor dysfunction can be caused by either Hypotonicity (weak pelvic floor muscles) or Hypertonicity (tight pelvic floor muscles). We can determine what might be the cause and prescribe a course of treatment... to help alleviate pain and discomfort. Internal palpating is the gold standard to determine presence of of hyper and or hypotonicity and to create a customized plan. BENEFITTING FROM PLEVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY There are many causes of pelvic dysfunction, and a variety of patients that can reap the benefits of physiotherapy. Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy may be utilized to assist with: Prenatal and Postpartum patients. As women’s bodies tend to shift and change within a relatively short period of time, they may experience pain in the pelvis, hips, lower back or tailbone. Symptoms of pain during sexual intercourse or changes in urination and/or bowel movements can often be treated with Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy as well as women with prolapses, birth preparation, perineal tears and episiotomy recovery. Post-surgery recovery. If a patient has recently undergone a surgery related to the abdomen or pelvic area, they may experience pelvic floor concerns. Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy post-surgery can assist with managing pain. Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in men. Men that experience chronic pelvic pain, have experienced a prostatectomy or suffer from chronic prostatitis can benefit from pelvic floor physiotherapy. Women post-menopause. Estrogen levels are an important factor in maintaining optimal function in the pelvic floor. During menopause, women find their estrogen levels drop significantly. This drop may contribute to symptoms of heaviness, incontinence, urinary issues and/or pelvic pain. Physiotherapy that focuses on pelvic floor enhancement will help alleviate symptoms. A Variety of Specialized Treatments Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy helps improve and maintain a healthy pelvic floor in a variety of ways, with therapies including hands-on treatment, exercises, and suggested lifestyle modifications. Our specialists will often incorporate various treatments, including: Manual therapy Exercise prescriptions Muscle stimulation Relaxation techniques Core stabilization Pelvic floor muscle strengthening Pelvic floor education #KelownaPhysiotherapy #KelownaPelvicPhysiotherapy #KelownaWomensHealth #Incontinence #PelvicFloor #PelvicPain #PelvicFloorDisfunction #AffinityFamilyWellness #AffinityPhysiotherapy #PelvicFloorEducation #PelvicFloorAssessment

It takes a delicate touch, a lot of knowledge, and expertise that we are so lucky to have right here at Affinity Wellness. ... Have you tried Acupuncture before? What results did you feel afterwards? How does CBD oil help assist in chronic pain management? CBD oil has been shown to help with chronic pain management. CBD stops the body from absorbing anandamide, which is a neurotransmitter that is associated with regulating pain. CBD oil has been shown to help reduce pain and inflammation. We know what you're thinking... "the more the better!", and while that can be true for relaxation massages, when you're dealing with pain and injury, your RMT will make recommendations according to the severity. If you've had an acute injury, book an appointment as soon as possible (after visiting your MD, of course!) to minimize the damage. After your initial appointment, you can expect another appointment in 5 to 7 days. If the injury or pain is chronic, from t...hings like throwing your back out or sciatica, it's best to visit once a week until you're not experiencing any pain in between appointments, then you can start spacing them out. For routine discomfort from things like sitting at a desk, every two weeks to once a month is great! Of course, everybody is different and will require different amounts of treatment. That's why our RMTs are so great - they are able to personalize your plan so that it fits with what you need. See more
