BIG NEWS Please Read As of June 1, Ajax Foot Clinic will be reopening for all essential services We are so excited to get back to work and see all of you again. ... However, there will be some notable changes to our clinic in order to best serve and protect both our staff and our patients. All patients will be required to wear a mask or face covering their mouth AND nose (scarf or bandana will suffice) at all times while inside the clinic. A mask will NOT be given to you if you dont arrive with one and you may be asked to rebook your appointment. We are booking our schedules at a 50% capacity. This will lessen the amount of people in our office at any given point and allow for physical distancing within our clinic. All patients entering the clinic will be required to sign a COVID19 screening form prior to treatment that states you are in good health. We ask that if you have a fever, cough, sore throat, difficulty breathing, or have tested positive for COVID19 you inform reception prior to coming into the clinic and rebook your appointment to a later date. We kindly ask that only the person with the appointment come into the clinic, and all unnecessary company wait outside, with the exception of anyone who requires physical assistance and minors (which will be limited to ONE parent/caregiver per patient) Please respect your appointment time. Given the nature in which we must now operate, if you are late it will affect the entire schedule, allowance for physical distancing, and our ability maintain a safe environment for everyone. If you are late for your scheduled appointment time you run the risk of not being seen by the Chiropodist and may be asked to rebook your appointment. Theres nothing worse than deciding to slip on your favorite pair of backless shoes and seeing rough, cracked skin. For hardened heels, its crucial to use a moisturizer daily. Look for one with urea or lactic acid on the ingredient label as these will exfoliate as well as hydrate. Just like your skincare routine, its equally important to continue to give your feet some TLCeven after youve healed them. The best treatment for cracked heels is avoiding it in the first place which means daily moisturizing and weekly exfoliatingthis is important in both cold and warm weather.

Trim toenails regularly with nail clippers, not scissors your toenails are twice as thick as your fingernails from birth and clippers are stronger. Cut them straight across, not too short there should be a bit of nail showing above the toe and not down at the corners. Follow the shape of the nail when cutting, keeping the edge away from the end of the soft tissue part of the toe, because if you can see the edge of the nail it cant be growing in. If you have difficulty cutting your nails, file them twice a week using an emery board.

Many people over the age of 40 have some unhealthy foot hygiene habits. The most common, is failing to dry between the toes after bathing. If moist feet are placed inside closed shoes, the feet may become warm and fungus growth may be promoted, due to the wetness and the footwear, which prevents breathability. This can lead to blistering and cellulitis, as well as athletes foot. By simply drying between the toes after bathing, one can help reduce the occurrence of such infections and therefore reduce foot discomfort. In addition, the use of over-the-counter powders, can be placed directly onto your feet or into socks to reduce wetness.

It could be the sign of a neuroma in the foot and this painful condition is most common for women. A neuroma is a painful condition in the ball of the foot in which one or more of the nerves is getting pinched or irritated. Some of the common symptoms are numbness and tingling, often a stabbing pain or a dull and aching pain. A majority of patients will benefit from a change of shoes to a more supportive shoe and avoiding walking barefoot. Sometimes, an orthotic device can help by redistributing pressure. Sometimes, an injection is necessary.

Whether your runs always end with cramped arches or you simply want to ensure your feet are properly supported throughout a workout, its time to start considering a running shoe with arch support. Arch support equals shock absorption, and everyone can use that. Pick up a pair of shoes and make sure the shoe does not bend in half. This two-step test includes attempting to fold the shoe like a burrito in both directions. Next, make sure there is thickness in the arch because this generally gives the foot more support. Finally, the shoe should have a wide, chunky heel to maximize the support.
