Our very own Kim Fullerton visited Contemporary Calgary over the weekend and witnessed the fabulous exhibition by Omar Ba titled Same Dream circulated by The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and curated by Nabila Abdel Nabi! Same Dream brings together several of Ba’s paintings depicting dictators and authority figures, who lead corrupt and violent regimes across the African continent and in other parts of the world, particularly where the legacies of colonialism persist.... At times represented as hybrid beastspart human, part animal these despotic warlords are typically enveloped in an abundance of lush flora and fauna. Indeed, nature becomes a recurring force across Ba’s oeuvre. The exhibition will be available until Sunday, January 31, 20215:00 PM so make sure to visit when you are able and it is safe <3 For more information: https://www.contemporarycalgary.com/what/omar-ba-same-dream

This Sunday we bring you a new #Cripsters! We present Embodying Contradiction: Sharona Franklin's Limeflower Heterodoxy by Jen Sebring. The Vancouver-based artist's quietly disruptive works push beyond embodied human difference to encompass the post-humanist idea of the body as a collection of matter that ebbs and flows between us and our environment. Sebring writes, "Sharona Franklin’s art invokes an otherworldliness. Her signature gelatin sculptures invite the viewer to be...come intimate with them. In this intimacy, the ethereal molds bordered with sprouts of flowers reveal another intimacy: that of living with illness and disability, and the foreign yet familiar objects of medicine. lic or plant-based medicine."
