Join the AFA in recognizing its 30th Anniversary and the annual #MonthoftheArtist by celebrating our local artists and arts organizations. #TakePartInArt by getting to know Frederick Kroetsch - local documentary filmmaker. We had an opportunity to catch up with him and learn more about his practice. Here's a teaser: -- "Documentary IS an art form. It isn’t just reality TV, activism, and true crime retrospectives. Documentary has a long and celebrated history in Canada, with s...ome proposing we make it our official art form." -- "I went from shooting a food travel series across Canada with my wife, to sitting in my basement in front of a computer. Although financially challenging, [the pandemic] provided me an opportunity to look inwards and start developing new projects." -- "Go to local art shows. Hang out at local film festivals. We make cool things here we should be proud of that." Full interview at https://buff.ly/3zvD9kR. The World Premiere of Frederick's newest film, Blind Ambition: The Story of Wop May, will be on October 3, 2021, at the Edmonton International Film Festival! See more

You can #takepartinart by learning more about artists working and creating in our communities! Posted @withregram @trex_region2 The third artist featured in the upcoming TREX Region 2 exhibition 'wawisihcikan - adornment' is Erik Lee. A multi-disciplinary artist from Maskwacis, Lee's work is informed by the visual language and design sensibilities of the Plains Cree and his aim is to advance and innovate and build on this heritage. As Lee states: 'We (the Plains Cree) have ...so much to offer in visual expression and I want to do my part to continue that but also to innovate and build on that. Plains Cree art is an evolving thing and it is a great gift to be a part if that; to present it so new audiences can see it....' If you missed Joal Kamps and Flint & Feather’s debut of #WildRose last night, not to worry as it can be streamed anytime from the Polaris Centre for the Performing Arts website and YouTube channel (along with all the other free Alberta Culture Days performances from that evening). They are such lovely storytellers and performers, it’s easy to #TakePartInArt and stream in the afternoon with a cup of tea or the evening with a glass of wine or by a fire. Wild Rose debuts at app...roximately 38 minutes into the video, with some special guest performers. (Also: sending best wishes to Steve, who Joal notes during the concert is currently in hospital.) #monthoftheartist #abartist #abarts #MyAlbertaArt https://youtu.be/v3MJjO0A0JY
