Gingerbread anyone? Our final school activity day was our annual Gingerbread House decorating competition, where students worked with their Housemates to create the coolest gingerbread house! We look forward to more school-wide activities in 2021! Our judges chose Atwood house as the winner this year. #ibworldschool #gingerbreadhouse #christmas #decoratingcontest

Each year, our selection of club offerings is determined by our students' interests. This year, Chess Club was in high demand and Ms. Sandhu has been running it every Monday afterschool. Did you know she has won chess competitions? Today is the last week before Winter Break, but come sharpen your mind in January! #ibworldschool #ibeducation #chessclub #chess #afterschoolactivity

Ms. Guan's Career Life Education students received their certificate of completion for participating in the Dollars with Sense program by JA Canada. Learning to create financial goals with money management skills prepares our students for a lifetime of smart financial choices. Well done! #ibworldschool #financialliteracy #moneysmart #dollarswithsense #ibeducation

Look at our students We promise they are smiling underneath the masks! In Ms. Sandhu’s Biology 12 class, they recently attended an Anatomy and Physiology lecture given by the Simon Fraser University Science Outreach Program, and in Chemistry class they’ve held presentations on sound business plans for waste-water treatments by companies. We've been learning about science from all angles! #ibworldschool #vancouver #ibscience #vancouverschool

Our Physical and Health Education Class students had the chance to explore a very modern career path - they served as health coaches to their first client, Mr. Hildebrand! They created lifestyle plans to help him lose 3 kilos in a month, based on his answers to their questions regarding his lifestyle. After reviewing the plans, Mr. Hildebrand selected Bander and Mohammadsadra's plan and has lost 2.3 kilos so far, with about a week to go! "They have been very good about encouraging me and getting me to keep up the good work," he said. He hopes the project has taught his students what it takes to be healthy. #ibworldschool #vancouverschool #stayhealthy #fitnessplan

We held our Remembrance Day assembly yesterday to honor the sacrifices of Canada’s veterans for our country. It is our responsibility to remember those who gave their lives for the freedom and peace that we take for granted today. It was a special honor to have Major Paul Malone, current serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces share what Remembrance Day means to him. His personal experiences provided students with the insight beyond what can be found in our history books.... My purpose is to put a face and understanding to [the word] sacrifice, he told Alexander Academy students. His perspective reminded us that it is not only about the sacrifices that have been made, but also those that many like Major Paul Malone would be willing to make in the future to protect the government and people of Canada. In addition to the loss of a soldier’s life, he hopes we also take the time to think about the families that are left behind when a soldier deploys somewhere. Think about not being able to hug your mom or dad for six monthsand there’s a chance it’s the last hug they will ever get. That’s the thought I think of when we talk about the sacrifices of a soldier. Don’t only think about the loss of life, think about the families left behind. #lestweforget #remembranceday

Let’s get down to business Mr. Hildebrand’s Economic Theory class was divided into groups and assigned an 18th/19th century job or industry. They brainstormed how they would divide the money for the resources needed (labour, natural resources, machines/facilities, etc) and created posters to share their theories with the class. If you want to study how the world works, economics is a major piece of the puzzle! #ibworldschool #vancouverschool #economics #beyondtheclassroom #study

Alexander Academy's Halloween Day includes exceptions to our regular school-uniform rule, hidden treats, and plenty of Halloween activities organized by Student Council. The game Among Us was most probably the biggest success! For some of our new students this is their first experience of Halloween. We sure had a blast! #ibworldschool #vancouverschool #halloween2020 #halloweencostume
