I am very happy to announce my appointment to the board of directors of the Association of french-speaking communities of Ontario in Toronto (ACFO-Toronto). ACFO-Toronto is a non-profit organization created 40 years ago with the mandate to represent the interests of Francophones in Toronto to the City, the provincial government and the federal government. I am happy and honored to announce that I was selected as a finalist for the Saphir Soiree recognition award organized by the Franco-Ontarian Foundation and the Canadian Club of Toronto in the youth category - under 30 years old. These awards aims to honor women with inspiring backgrounds and careers in relation to the development of the Francophonie in Ontario (French-speaking community of Ontario). The gala will take place on March 6, 2021.... Criminal Defence Lawyers’ silent work. The perception is that we have it (life) easy or that we are crooks. While Doctors are looking at the weakness of the human body and trying to heal it; Criminal Defence Lawyers are looking at the wickedness of humanity and trying to heal it. Both bring immense responsibility. There is very little knowledge of the daily work of a Criminal Defence Lawyer, especially with his/her clients.... Often we are the first person to ask them about their fears, pain and trauma; about their dreams and hopes and their vision for life on earth. For better or worse, we are called not only when they are arrested, but often also when they become homeless, suicidal, when they consider a sip of alcohol, and when they are hopeless. Then, they also call when they graduate from college after getting a second chance. We are often ill equipped to help them with those mental health, hopelessness, homeless and self-love issues, but we always do our best and refer them to the appropriate service. The passion and hard work to open our own practice in criminal law is undeniable. I applaud every Criminal Defence Lawyer for not looking away and choosing to help heal our community.
