All About U Arts 27.10.2020

Time For Rebirth Ben Davidson, 2020 . . .... This tree symbolizes our connections to our past, present, and future. Beginning at the base of the tree, three feathers are roots to honour our connections to our ancestors and Elders. As the trunk grows up from the earth, it separates to form branches. These branches transform into an eagle and raven to honour our relationships with our parents, mentors, and teachers; their wings are outstretched to guide and protect us. From behind the eagle and raven, the salmon emerge. They represent the youth who protect our knowledge and carry it into the future, so it will continue to live. As you walk over the roots of the tree, remember to draw strength from the ancestral knowledge of the past. As you walk under the wings of the raven and the eagle, remember to draw strength from your relationships in the present. As you walk past the salmon, remember to draw strength for your responsibility to the future.

By Cori Savard 12x36 acrylic on canvas Known as the one in the sea, Tang.G_waan is the greatest supernatural being in the ocean. His potlatch attire consists of the cumulus and cirrus clouds. He lives in the deepest of depths, and everything that has ever been thrown in or has fallen in the ocean passes under the floorboards of his house. #haida #haidaart #killerwhale #theoneinthesea #corisavard @ All About U Arts

The Man Who Became an Eagle Cori Savard, 2018 22H x 17W x 15D The painting on this bentwood box illustrates a variation on the lazy son-in-law story. Shamed by his mother-in-law, the young man retreats to the forest, where he finds an eagle’s skin. Putting the skin on allows him to transform and fly about in eagle form. He uses his new strength to gather food for his village, always under cover of night, keeping his transformative powers to himself. Every morning the vil...lagers would find food laid out for them on the beach. Every night the young man would bring back increasing amounts of fish, seals, porpoises, even whales. He always returned before dawn, for if he would linger in his Eagle form, he would perish when the first Raven called at daybreak. When the people went looking for the young man to help prepare the food, he would be sleeping. The man is seen on the side of the box, in Eagle form, the Raven is shown on the opposite side. The food the man has gathered is represented as the killer whale on the back of the box, with salmon figures incorporated in the ovoids. At the front of the box is a killer whale, facing the Eagle. The whale is said to have been a supernatural, and to have been the Eagle’s final prey. After capturing it, he struggled to return it to his village because of its massive size. Just as the Eagle’s wing tips touched the shore, the Raven called, thus revealing his identity to the villagers, who would never again think of him as lazy. @ All About U Arts

Tide Walker the original painting by Ben Davidson is leaving the gallery this week. Swipe left to view the LE serigraph print of the same name. Can U spot the differences? Tide walker exists in the space between land and ocean. From far, he appears as a dorsal fin, so we imagine his body beneath the waves. We are so desperate to be the first to see the killer whale that we allow our minds to complete his story before we have time to determine the truth. We are so swiftly ...lured into believing the surface story that we rarely take time to consider what lies beneath. E-mail us at [email protected] to inquire about other original paintings or prints! #haidaart #tidewalker #bendavidson #allaboutuarts @ All About U Arts

Can U Bear To Sea It By Ben Davidson The concept for this piece was created during a 7-day boat tour where Ben, included in a group of 50 plus artists travelled into the Great Bear Rainforest, home to spirit bears, whales, wolf packs, grizzlies and many other creatures.... The piece itself shows a salmon trout head on the bottom, symbolized by the ovoid under the whale tail. Along the journey, Ben was able to be a close part of an interaction of a mother bear and her cub. Being that close to those animals made him realize, that the humans he had portrayed in a previously drawn concept sketch for this piece, needed to be replaced by the two bears the humans form no longer having relevance to the story. Since this piece shall create awareness to Enbridge’s proposed Northern Gateway pipeline project along the inside passage of Northern B.C’s waterway, it reminds us, that these creatures could be impacted should there ever be an oil spill in these waters. The salmon being the first to potentially be affected, with a ripple effect along the line to the surrounding ecosystem and all it’s living inhabitants. Forton Casting, edition of 9 24.5x19
