Jessica Esmeralda Zepeda Yassica Esmeralda Zepeda is a performer born and based in Tkaronto with a diaspora from Cuscatlan, known as post-colonial El Salvador. Talking about El Salvador’s war and atrocities will never be easy because I don’t think the country really got a chance to heal, and neither did the following generations. At least with film, future generations can share their dreams, aspirations, and their sense of humour with the ghosts of the past. This is why I lo...ve sci-fi - it really allows one to dream of new worlds and landscapes...or just be a blue alien! More here: https://www.alunatheatre.ca/be-a-part-of-//jessica-zepeda/ . . . As part of Tarragon’s Acoustic season, Aluna Theatre’s production of Rosa Labordé’s LÉO premieres Thursday, October 8. Leo originally aired as part of Radio Aluna Theatre’s premiere season in 2019. We’re thrilled to partner with Tarragon for this encore presentation! Political passion, poetry, sexual identity, and what it means to disappear including the loss of ideals and individual spirit weave a bittersweet triangle in this tale of stolen youth. Set in Santiago, Chil...e, Leo, is a one-act play told from the perspective of a twenty-year-old pleasure centred man who has become a desaparecido (disappeared) after the democratically elected Chilean government is overthrown with the assassination of the president, Salvador Allende, in the military coup d’etat of 1973. Leo takes us on a journey through childhood, first friends, first loves and an abruptly ended adolescence.
