Al Whittle Theatre 23.01.2021

Help us solve a photo mystery? We have this great image from 1975 of Al Whittle showing off the old reel-to-reel projector. But we don't know the identity of the young man at right. Possibly a student, maybe there with a photographer from the Athenaeum. Anybody know?

On Wednesday, the theatre was one of 89 recipients of grants from the Nova Scotia government’s Emergency Support for Arts and Culture Organizations program. We are grateful to support for arts and culture, for our Acadia Cinema and Al Whittle Theatre, and others in the province who are feeling the COVID-19 pinch!

Saturday afternoon at the Whittle! Come watch these great NFB Animated short films...showing in rotation from 3:30-6:00pm. Stay for one or stay for them all. Bring a friend or a child or a parent. Fun for the whole family. Covid restrictions in place, so seating is limited. Donations welcome. Mask required when moving around the theatre, but can be removed once seated. Enjoy our contribution to the Night of Lights Celebration and pop by the theatre for some warmth and some classic animated short films. Even in these tough times for theatres we need to cherish the few remaining examples of the golden age of cinemas. Our little theatre is more than a film house, and we still have our famous marquee. When was the last time you lined up out on Main Street to see a film in the Acadia Theatre? We are reminded of our good fortune when we see images of those lost to time, like this pics of the Capitol Theatre in Halifax. Thanks to Old Black and White Photos of Halifax.
