Our baby Mimi (Marvel x Aimee) in her blanket by JV Equine / Carriage House Miniature Horse Tack & Harness!! The whole thing is custom made by Vicki Schulz. We like having a good butt flap on our blankets, and for Mimi an extra wide belly band so shes a toasty little perogie She is 23" tall and turning 3 months!

!!!Potomac Horse Fever Alert!!! Our vets at Moore Equine have seen a number of horses recently that have been diagnosed with Potomac Horse Fever (PHF). This dis...ease is commonly seen from early summer to late fall in Alberta. It is caused by a bacteria called Neorickettsia risticii which affects the gastrointestinal tract of the horse. As part of the life cycle of the N. risticii, the bacteria lives inside of snails/slugs and aquatic insects (mayflies, caddisflies, etc). Horses ingest these bugs by accident when they are drinking water or eating hay/grass. Infected horses are more quiet than usual, they don’t eat as much as normal (or not at all) and they may have a fever and diarrhea. It is important to note that some horses with PHF still have normal manure. Depending on the severity of the disease PHF can be mild to life-threatening for your horse. Adequate treatment is important to treat dehydration, electrolyte and protein loss, and inflammation. Prevention of laminitis (founder) is very important in horses infected with PHF as these horses are at high risk to develop this potentially fatal inflammation of the hoof. Please contact your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns about your horse(s). Radiograph of a horse showing rotation of the coffin bone downwards within the hoof, which is indicative of acute severe laminitis. Potomac Horse Fever infection can lead to severe life threatening laminitis. See more

Hey American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA) members! September’s BOD meeting was moved to a new date, Sept 22 at 6pm CST, in order to allow folks time to get home from the World show. We are looking for membership participation as we have many things on the agenda post world show including the 2020 AGM in Portland, and our options surrounding that November meeting. So please call in and participate!! We need to hear your voice as we work together on this.

Sharing this again from the incredible Equine Partnership because it boggles my mind how archaic and uneducated the Equestrian scene still is in regards to trai...ning young horses, especially the "breaking in" of young horses, as horrible a term as that is. (Starting under saddle is much kinder!) The horses knees do not solidify until he is TWO. His upper legs and hocks until he is THREE and THREE AND A HALF. His shoulders and hips until he is FOUR AND FIVE. His lower jaw bone and connecting joint to the top of the skull till he is FIVE. HIS SPINE DOES NOT SOLIDIFY AND STOP GROWING UNTIL HE IS SIX YEARS OLD. His poll and withers at SEVEN. Your horse has not finished growing and solidifying his whole skeleton until he is seven years old. He is not structurally safe to gently ride until he is Six, when there is no longer risk of pressure damage to the STILL NOT SOLIDIFIED SPINE. He should not be expected to maintain collection or frame until after his poll and withers are finished. If you disregard this, and choose instead to start early, with no reason other than the selfish desire for a rideable horse or one you can make money off, be it racing or sale, you need to leave the Equestrian world altogether. Horses are not machines that exist for you to profit off. They are living growing creatures who deserve to be owned, trained, and ridden, by people who choose to be educated and who choose to act based on welfare and facts instead of outdated opinions and greed. For more on welfare-first training and developing a kinder method, and on bitless and bridleless training the sport and pleasure horse, Like and Follow my page City Lights Equestrian - NZ If you want to follow the journey of my bitless, force free and +R trained warmblood stallion, please find him at City Lights Witchcraft - Pinto Warmblood Stallion

2010 was the start of showing miniature horses for me! Christine Tilleman had taken me under her wing before the show and taught me clipping, and how to pack for a horse show, and gave me advice on how to show halter!! Then at my first horse show in 2010, Tracy A Conrad let me catch handle one of her horses for the supreme class. I was so thrilled and I caught the bug. 10 years later, I'm still showing, still contributing to the industry, still breeding miniature horses and loads of plans and dreams for the future. I still want to breed a World Grand Champion. One day I will get my judges cards. Be kind, teach people and share your knowledge generously, like these two selfless ladies were, and you'll be surprised at the ripple effect.

A huge 2020 project completed. I’ve wanted a wash rack for ages because I love grooming and washing. Our old method was tying horses to the gator or quad, and washing them on the grass near my parents outdoor water tap. That means id have to go over to the farm to wash horses, and most of my boujee shampoos are here at the house, so always made lots of trips Forgetting stuff. Anyways, I had a hot water tap installed at my house, and we hand mixed this concrete pad. Dad helped me fabricate a galvanized rack custom sized for the minis that lifts out of its footings that are inbedded in the cement. And I was given a trailer mat from C5 Hoofgrip that they didn’t need anymore. It’s a awesome little wash rack that I’m going to enjoy washing horses and dogs at for many years to come.

I finally finished a big project on my list. I got this adorable vintage gate installed between two of our horse pens, in the shady grove where our water bowl is. I love the rounded edges and the 70s paint. Plus, I got the other pen fully fenced in the wire we recommend (Flirt proof because Flirt loves to rip out her mane sticking her head through barbed wire. No more barbed wire!). Thanks Nathan for your help.

Tease is such a wonderful colt to have born on our farm!!! He is much prettier than my shitty pictures :D Tease is a perfect name for this big personality colt. He has such a long, thin incredible neck and non-existent throat latch just like his sire Marvel, legs to burn, a great TIGHT small barrel & a showy personality. He is quirky and charming just like his sire and is maturing so beautifully over this winter. His topline is so incredibly smooth and straight, it makes him ...a breeze to show and fit. He is a fun boy to have in the barn, with his tiny ears, tiny bone and tiny delicate features. He is used to the show life - farrier work, grain buckets, training, blankets, grooming, hauling, stalling at shows. And because he is a palomino he is very acquainted with warm baths and blue shampoo! Tease took Grand Champion Junior Stallion awards as a yearling. I envision Tease having an all-around show career, being pretty enough for halter and bred to drive. His dam, Fancy, was so near and dear to my heart and she has sold to Ontario to a great farm. She is a granddaughter of Joe Dandy who is one of my favourite producing stallions ever, passing his athleticism and looks down through generations! 2019 SUMMER UPDATE: Tease was shown to great success in 2019, taking home many Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Jr Stallion awards at every show. I loved having this character on my string- he was easy to fit, feed and do everything with. He measured 31.5" at his tallest, and I believe he may finish 32.5"-33". Now he is gelded & looking forward to his all around career. He is WCMHC Futurity Nominated, to be sustained for the Two Year Old Year Performance Division. See more

Does anyone with mini's use these? We would love to try them because our bale nettings we use right now are so hard to put on our huge farm bales. With minis they eat from the bottom up which can cause the bale to tip over-- looking for input from miniature horse owners on this :D
