There now are a number of studies that provide evidence-based perspectives on what nutritional styles are good for the brain and what foods should be avoided or minimized. In terms of a dietary style with solid scientific evidence related to promoting brain health, nothing comes closer than the Mediterranean diet. https://www.psychologytoday.com///is-your-brain-olive-oil

Doctors are taught an average of 1 percent of their total lecture time in medical school learning about nutrition, and now one doctor, Dr. Michael Greger, is out to change that. The average time spent learning about "food as medicine" falls far short of the National Research Council’s recommendation for a baseline nutrition curriculum, according to a new report published by The Harvard Food Law and Policy Clinic, which has acknowledged: "Nutrition plays a critical role in the... prevention and treatment of many chronic diseases, and diet is one of the most significant risk factors for disability and premature death in the United States." I would love to see more nutrition education in Canadian medical schools- or at the very least, education regarding indicators of when to refer to a registered dietitian. Each year, about half of Canada’s food supply goes to waste. Fields of produce are plowed under due to cancelled orders; tomatoes destined for pasta sauce fall off conveyor belts and never make it to store shelves. That might be about to change. https://www.yorktonthisweek.com//ottawa-wants-to-hear-your

Released today- new evidence-based guidelines for the management of obesity. so pleased to see a holistic approach. Obesity is a prevalent, complex, progressive and relapsing chronic disease, characterized by abnormal or excessive body fat (adiposity), that impairs health. People living with obesity face substantial bias and stigma, which contribute to increased morbidity and mortality independent of weight or body mass index.... This guideline update reflects substantial advances in the epidemiology, determinants, pathophysiology, assessment, prevention and treatment of obesity, and shifts the focus of obesity management toward improving patient-centred health outcomes, rather than weight loss alone. Obesity care should be based on evidence-based principles of chronic disease management, must validate patients lived experiences, move beyond simplistic approaches of eat less, move more, and address the root drivers of obesity. People living with obesity should have access to evidence-informed interventions, including medical nutrition therapy, physical activity, psychological interventions, pharmacotherapy and surgery. https://www.cmaj.ca/content/192/31/E875
