Last week's news about CMHC tightening up the rules had buyers on their toes. How does that affect you as a buyer? Especially a first time home buyer? Here's how CMHC's new Rule will affect affordibility: CMHC’s changes will effectively reduce homebuyers’ purchasing power by up to 11-13% for people paying less than 20 percent down payment. ... Someone earning $100,000 with no other debt and 5% down payment could afford approximately 12.64% less home under CMHC’s new rules. These new rules only apply from July 1 2020.
