She won't let him go... Every year Vera’s family has a traditional "Pig killing party" (very common in Portugal). She asks her parents over and over again to not kill one of the pigs because she had become very attached to him.... A few days ago she went to visit her grandmother who lives next door to her parents. Her grandma wasn't home but then she heard a lot of noise coming from her parents' house. On entering the backyard she saw her favorite pig bleeding on the floor... Her brother told me she hugged the dying pig for almost an hour until her mother forced her to let go. And that was the inspiration for this painting Don’t be part of this, go vegan for the animals: http://animalsaveactions.com Text and illustration: Edgar Sacadura

Systemic sexual violation of female bodies - #FebruDairyFREE Day 11 "Perhaps the most unpleasant fact to consider about cows' milk destined for human consumption is that it almost certainly required a heifer's forced impregnation. Female cows are strapped to a rack (common slang often refers to the device as a 'rape rack') and inseminated with semen stored in a massive syringe. ... There are 9 million dairy cows in the United States. Nearly every one of them suffers immensely from the results of this experience." FORBES Magazine For the victims of the dairy industry, be vegan. The dairy industry lies through its teeth about cows being "part of their family". The fact is forced impregnation, stealing of breast milk, kidnapping of newborn calves, and slaughter are standard practices on all dairy farms. These are practices we would never inflict on our human families. The image attached shows a "downer" cow who collapsed after over five years of subjugation and exploitation being taken to slaughter. ... What is the ending for all the animals used for human "benefit"? Where do the "happy hens" go when they are no longer able to lay eggs? What is the fate of the cows when they squeeze out every last drop of milk?... What happens to the male calves that are taken away from their mothers? And where are they all? They are all locked away, out of sight, in tiny cages, crates and stalls. Because once you see the reality of food production, it no longer looks like food. Never doubt that together, we have the power to change this story. Choose veganism today, join the movement, fight for them. We Animals Media - Pig farm in Italy, 2015.

Lucky Ones Farm Sanctuary was founded in July of 2019 to serve as a space for animal individuals lucky enough to be rescued from the animal agriculture industry. The sanctuary is located just outside of Calgary in southern Alberta, Canada. Founder Kennadi has been vegan since 2016 and her husband Tyce has been vegan since 2019. All of the hard working humans at Lucky Ones Farm Sanctuary have been doing a great job of keeping the animals they love safe, warm, fed, and comforta...ble and do so on a limited budget. Farmed animals have been genitically manipulated so drastically and treated with such negligence throughout their lives, that many are dead or dying before they even reach their slaughter age (which is just 8 - 26 weeks for turkeys). Those who survive face the inescapable slaughterhouse floor. Take the turkey free pledge this thanksgiving and refuse to support animal abuse from today - https://secure2.convio.net/fsi/site/Advocacy... What the meat industry figured out is that you don't need healthy animals to make a profit. Sick animals are more profitable... Factory farms calculate how close to death they can keep animals without killing them. That's the business model. How quickly they can be made to grow, how tightly they can be packed, how much or how little can they eat, how sick they can get without dying...We live in a world in which it's conventional to treat an animal like a block of wood. - Jonathan Safran Foer Footage captured in the United States by Peter Herrera.

Do you see the look in his eyes? What do you see? Violence dominates our society and it robs us of empathy and respect for other lives creating individuals blinded by selfishness. If a being is sentient, that is enough to deserve the right not to be used as an object by humans.... It is no longer necessary for "slaughterhouse walls to be made of glass" to see the reality of what is happening to animals. You can just look at the content of our account and the experiences of the vigils to know that this is wrong. Please consider making a habit change, choose veganism today. They do not deserve what is happening to them. Tommaso Ausili

A powerful vigil for the pigs from Kristianstad Pig Save "This Sunday we were 11 people who together gave the pigs attention and love. These pigs who are only 6 months young have a violent and inevitable death to wait in the morning. Some people walked by and asked what we were doing and why we were standing with signs with pictures of piggies.... We then talked about the pigs, about HK Scan and about what happens behind the metal walls at the death factory on Torggatan. They were shocked to say the least when they found out that there were 3000 piggies per weekday killed on HK Scan - and not per month as they first thought. They also asked, 'Where are all these piggies coming from'? Yes, they come from 'pig farms' located in southern and central Sweden. Although the pigs are never seen, there are still a lot of people actually - but they are well hidden. Around 2,5 million pig people get their lives taken every year in Sweden - and then NOT all those who are killed or killed in the farms, in the slaughter car and / or sorted out at the slaughterhouse as unfit - including. In the usual order, traces of blood and wounded pig bodies clearly showed the violence and pain this industry causes. Completely unnecessary in addition... It is really very easy to live a good and good life without having to take other's. Think of the pigs - see them-care about them!" Please follow them to support their important work.

There Was a Killing (Film) On the morning of Friday, June 19th, seven animal rights activists were demonstrating outside a slaughterhouse in Burlington, Ontario. What began as a peaceful vigil (giving water to pigs and offering words of comfort moments before death) turned to horror for activist Regan Russell. It was a little after 10 am as another truck appeared on the horizon. But something was off. Though the truck would be turning right onto a service road, the driver... remained in the left lane, not moving, and holding up traffic for several light-cycles. Russell, waiting at the crosswalk on the far side of the service road, eventually decided to join her companions. Suddenly, the truck lurched forward and the other activists heard a terrifying scream, but the driver kept going until security guards waved him down. By then, 65-year old Regan Russell had been dragged more than the entire length of the truck, and she was dead. But no criminal charges were brought forward due to the passing of Bill 156 just one day before, a statute designed to protect truckers from so-called activists. Directed by Shaun Monson (Earthlings), and featuring never-before-seen footage, There Was a Killing provides first-hand accounts and in-depth video coverage exposing corruption, a cover-up, and a new law that may be a license to kill. We are devastated to announce the tragic death of Regan Russell, a compassionate animal advocate who was killed today outside of the Fearmans Pork Inc. slaughterhouse in Burlington, Ontario in Canada. Regan died after being run over by a transport truck full of pigs. Regan was a fearless fighter and a peacemaker. She bore witness today to offer water to the pigs on a scorching hot day, offering them a final moment of peace - as she had done many times before in legal pr...otest Regan was a kind, elegant, strong, and courageous person, said Anita Krajnc, founder of the Animal Save Movement. She was a mentor to others, and she always did activism with kindness in her heart. Regan had been an animal advocate since 1979, attended vigils weekly for years, and cared deeply about justice for animals, racial justice, and protecting the vulnerable. Ten thousand pigs are slaughtered at the Fearmans Pork slaughterhouse every day. Toronto Pig Save activists have been holding regular vigils outside Fearmans since 2014 when Quality Meat Packers closed in downtown Toronto. The tragic death comes two days after the controversial agricultural gag (ag gag) law, Bill 156, was passed in Ontario. Bill 156 is designed to cover up animal cruelty on farms and during transport. We ask that Michael Latifi, CEO of Fearmans, agrees to release the pigs who were on the transport truck that killed the activist, to a sanctuary as a sign of compassion and respect. Toronto Pig Save will be holding a candlelight vigil outside Fearmans slaughterhouse to honour her life. Just like we speak up against Fearmans for murdering innocent beings, we will not stand back as that industry of death shamelessly steals the life of a warrior. She died fighting against an industry that hides the truth, as shown by the passing of Ag gag legislation, Bill 156, just days ago. Regan was a wife, a daughter, a best friend, and we will not let the candles go out. #SavePigs4Regan See more

How do we justify killing those who do not want to die? Would you like to be suffocated to death in a gas chamber, electrocuted or have your throat sliced? If you put yourself in their place, if you saw the world for a single moment through their eyes, if you felt all that they are forced to endure, you would understand that there is no greater injustice than that which every non-human animal is forced to experience.... Contrary to what the animal agriculture industry advertises, there is no right way to exploit sentient beings. On the day they are born, nonhuman animals have the day of their execution already planned by the industry. They are enslaved, objectified, exploited, tormented and have their bodily autonomy violated from birth to death. ... We need to take a stance against the massive injustice going-on behind the closed doors of farms, slaughterhouses, and other places of animal exploitation. We need to go vegan, reject speciesism, and get active for all animals. We Animals Media

These newborn calves were taken from their mothers the day they were born and were locked inside these tiny pens in the freezing snow. This allows the farmer to sell the mother's milk that was intended for her baby. Alone and afraid, they'll spend anywhere from 2 to 6 months inside these tiny pens, before being transferred to group housing with other young females awaiting a life sentence of suffering.... If they were born male, they would either get killed soon after they're born or sold for cheap 'veal'. In nature, female calves suckle from their mother for nine months and then stay together for the rest of their lives. Male calves suckle for about a year and then leave to join a bachelor herd. If newborn puppies were treated this way, the farmers would be reported for animal abuse, but because they're calves, this is all completely legal. This footage was taken from a small scale farm in Pennsylvania. Please don't support this cruel industry - https://veg22.co/SaveMov Footage courtesy of Peter Herrera

Today is World Freedom Day. Billions of nonhuman animals are confined on farms and other facilities of exploitation. They are objectified, enslaved, tormented, and murdered, when all they want is freedom. We steal their freedom from them the day they are born and subject them to a life of slavery, misery, and violence until they are brutally murdered. ... Nothing in this world can justify what we force them to endure every second of every day. We need to learn empathy and begin to view these individuals as our fellow earthlings rather than objects to exploit. Freedom is the right of every individual regardless of their gender, race, class, and species. NO ONE should be denied freedom. We can end the unjust oppression against ALL animals by going vegan and getting active to dismantle animal exploitation. www.vegan22.com #WorldFreedomDay

We are thrilled to announce the publication of Anita Krajnc’s brand new essay, The Save Movement: Bearing Witness to Suffering Animals Worldwide in Meatsplaining: The Rhetoric of the Animal Agriculture Industry, a new volume of essays examining meat industry propaganda! In her inspiring chapter, Dr. Krajnc tells the powerful story of the birth and explosive growth of the Save Movement, which now has local chapters all across globe. At the core of the Save Movement is the mo...ral act of bearing witness to animals. As Dr. Krajnc explains in the following excerpt: The Animal Save Movement emphasizes that everyone has a choice when confronted with suffering animals: to look away or to come close and try to help. Everyone knows it is wrong to look away and do nothing in the face of suffering and injustice. Our goal is to hold vigils at every slaughterhouse, auction house and animal agriculture farm and have everyone bear witness in a more complete way." Want to get inspired? Did you know that we have normalized the objectification of non-human animals just by speaking and repeating cultural phrases? Can you think of some? Many of us grew up hearing phrases that condone violence toward animals. Sayings such as kill two birds with one stone, work like a horse, eat like a pig, like a headless chicken, bring home the bacon, flog a dead horse, have bigger fish to fry, smell a rat. The list goes on ... Contempt for other animals begins when we use their names as an insult; "you are a sly fox, snake, cow, bitch, dog, pig, weasel, monkey, gorilla, etc... and continues clearly with the objectification: "pet, owner, master, cattle, livestock. Did you know that as many a 30% of female cows sent to slaughter are pregnant? This is because female dairy cows are kept pregnant most of their lives and can be sent to slaughter at any time once they’re deemed to no longer be profitable. Here’s a testimony from a veterinary medical student who spent some time within a slaughterhouse -... It's true that I would say that it always happens that in the midst of these slimy and bloody mountains will be a gravid womb, and that I've seen little calves already all formed, of all sizes, fragile and bare, the eyes closed, in a uterine envelope that is no longer able to protect them - the smallest as tiny as a newborn cat, and still a miniature cow, the tallest soft and silky, of a broken white , with long eyelashes around her eyes, should have been born a few weeks later.
