It’s almost time for you parents to pull out the Elf... This would be a good time to book your massages! #elfstress

I have always loved getting and giving massages but Covid really solidified how much I love what I do. It is an honour to be able to do what I do. #wechangehowpeoplefeel

I have an incredibly blessed life. Driving home everyday I see so many people asking for money. The days are getting wetter and colder and my heart aches as I sit in my warm car watching these people begging for handouts. I’ve made packages to keep in my car. Big ziplocks: water, breakfast drink, protein bars, mitts, hand warmers, socks, cookies, popcorn, gc and two masks. Small bags: masks and gc PPE is equally as important as this limits indoor access. The smallest acts of kindness can make the difference difference. #gratitude #followmylead

As an adult looking back I wish my parents could have done more of this. I know how hard they worked. As my dads health rapidly disintegrates I can’t help but reflect on how I should spend the afternoon of my life. Today I’m going to book myself a much needed massage - for my physical and mental health!

I’m finding more than ever we need to put these suggestions into practice. Working on a kinder more empathetic way to myself was my last coaching topic. I start my masters in Integral coaching in two weeks! #selfcare #compassion

Given the current rise in cases in Ottawa, we wanted to take a moment to explain the measures we use to keep our clients and therapists as safe as possible. We screen you and we screen ourselves - before your appointment, your therapist will contact you to complete a COVID screening. Additionally, your therapist must self screen daily before coming in to the clinic. Masks- You are required to wear a mask in our clinic as are our therapists. Our therapists wear masks when t...hey walk through the door of the clinic, and change their masks frequently. Contacts - We are staggering our appointments so that you will have contact with the fewest number of people possible while at the clinic. Please don’t arrive at the clinic more than 5 minutes before your appointment if possible. We also ask that you book your appointment on line when possible, to reduce the amount of time that you spend in the clinic. Hand washing - We ask that our clients wash their hands when they come in to the clinic. Our therapists have always washed their hands frequently in the clinic, and continue to do so, including when they first arrive in the clinic. Both before and after your treatment, your therapist washes their hands and arms up to their elbows. . Air quality- we have quality HVAC in both of our clinics but have added air purifiers with HEPA filters to each treatment room in an effort to ensure good air circulation and quality during your treatment. Sanitation - we have always cleaned our treatment rooms and linens prior to every client. Now we are spending more time ensuring that surfaces are disinfected in the treatment rooms and the common spaces. Sheets and blankets are cleaned and dried at high temperature to ensure their cleanliness. At this time, we are being extremely flexible with our cancellation policy. If you must cancel your appointment due to possible symptoms of COVID-19, please give us as much time as possible so that we can fill your spot.

Massage time for me! Yesterday I completed @canadaarmyrun Commanders Challenge. (26.1k)I never wear my race shirt on race day but since the race is now virtual I wanted to show my support. So many other runners out waving at one another as we all completed our races alone. I miss these events so much. Did anyone else run this virtual race? @seanomak ( Innes Massage)thanks for offering me a treatment! Have to love when other massage business owners reach out to support one another. #community #supportlocal #massagetherapy #armyrun

After many days of turning off all our FB pages including my personal one, I am ready to send a proactive not reactive message. As a small business that values this community we have been receiving some very negative reviews on our google page and FB page. It comes down wearing masks. Words like discrimination were used. I take this very seriously and very personally. Those who know my story know that I come from refugee parents, that I was a single mom and that I had to fi...ght every step to be where I am now. I know discrimination and I don't tolerate it. The RMTs in my clinics are contractors - not employees. I have full trust in these amazing competent people. I know how hard they work, I know that they abide our governing body, I know how much they love their job and our community. Many have elderly parents, small children, their own health concerns and are the main supporters of their family. They will use their professional judgement if not wearing a mask out weighs the benefit of treatment for themselves, the client and the greater community. They have my full support and I stand solidly behind them. This is directly from our College. "RMTs must also consider the principle of minimizing harm, highlighted by both the Chief Medical Officer of Health and in CMTO’s Code of Ethics. In determining whether it is best to provide Massage Therapy treatment to a client, an RMT must always weigh the potential harm that could be done to the client (e.g. contracting COVID-19 and/or spreading it within their community) against the potential benefit of the treatment." Attached is a photo my parents. This is my COVID story. I took this photo June 7th of this year. I had to fly home as my dad is very unwell and is now in long term care. This will likely be the last time I see my dad up close. Parkinson's has stolen his ability to move and it has stolen his mind - he did not know me. A lung infection was the catalyst to his dementia. Covid has stolen all our ability to see him - except my mom and only twice a week for 1 hr. 61 years of marriage boiled down to 2 hourly visits each week. My mom has congestive heart failure and passed out while wearing her mask. As my mother hit the ground not one person would help her - lots of people around her but not one person would help. I can't speak of stories for my therapists, but I can speak of mine. In my treatment room I wear a mask and my clients wear a mask. I won't talk about my asthma or my new grand baby... for me the risk outweighs the benefits on multiple levels. I pray for my parents as this pandemic is stealing the best of the last years they have left. I pray for all. ~Leading by example Anna

Let’s all do our part to support local and support small business. What would our communities be like without them? Tomorrow the OAC closes after 44 years.

Autumn is also going to show us how beautiful change can be. 2020 has brought a lot of self reflection. Grateful our clinics are up and running and that our community is supporting us so strongly.

Happy Monday! The start of a new week. Clients have been so appreciate our our service and no complaints about having to wear a mask during treatment. As staff, it was an adjustment at first but now it’s part of our daily routine. Welcome to our Barrhaven clinic Elise! She starts this Tuesday. Elise is excited to come to the Ottawa area with her 11 years of experience, her knowledge and interest in Craniosacral Therapy, and to continue giving her clients the hands-on care she's developed. Many of the treatments focus into hands on skills, with myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and an overall treatment oriented environment. Elise always empowers her clients to engage in preventative and maintenance homecare regimes in order to build their own tool boxes to better themselves.

Change is tough; sometimes you need a pandemic to give you a swift kick in the right direction. I have known for quite some time that I should make this decision but emotionally I wasn’t prepared. We are growing stronger and making wise business decisions.
