My Love Affair with Fabric. Something that I've always felt passionate about is the selection of my fabric. Some of you may not know... but long before I went to fashion school, I actually studied textiles at the University of Manitoba. I guess that is why the foundation of who I am is embedded in the fabric. Some have asked, "how do you achieve that buttery soft feel"? Come join us on our fabric journey! First, all of our fibers are imported strictly from organic ...bamboo and certified organic cotton crops. Your foundation is the most important thing if you're trying to build something great! Next, our fabric is then knitted in Ontario, Canada, where we take pride in being able to say: "MADE IN CANADA". Our next stop also lands us in Ontario, Canada, where our fabric is then dyed. We only use AZO FREE dyes (free of potential carcinogens widely used in the textile industry). We make sure our fabric meets and exceeds the highest possible environmental standards without compromising style or comfort. Finally, all our clothing is manufactured right here in Winnipeg Manitoba at Anne Mulaire headquarters and goes straight into our Anne Mulaire Boutique. I just want to put it out there... I was never a blazer fan. I remember, 6 years ago, when I had to try on my first blazer. I couldn't believe the feeling of restriction and the lack of freedom I felt in them. It was no wonder that I had never gone near a professional-looking blazer before in my life. It was then, at that moment, I was determined to design work blazers that had the feel of COMFORT all over it but still had style and structure to accommodate the profess...ional look. 6 years later, guess who us wearing blazers... I found this beautiful, soft, Coral Linen/Bamboo fabric (and yes it is the softest fabric ever and totally breathable!) among a few other colours in my workshop a few weeks ago and I thought right away how it would brighten up all our moods! Twice a year, my team and I gather fabric remnants from previous collections to piece together and create one-of-a-kind, super comfortable, "Zero Waste" outfits. We have been working on some exciting and really fun new zero-waste pieces for this fall--- even bringing some Unisex designs to the mix! But aside from our ZW collection, if there are any remaining fabric scraps after our Zero Waste designs are made, they are donated to local individuals, like the BellMTS volunte...er group. These fantastic folks use the large pieces to make cancer caps for @cancercarembfdn and the small pieces to fill doggy beds which mostly get donated to spay and neuter clinics in northern reserves!
