Large, elegant Daisy & Button patterned vintage covered pedestal compote dish. 12" high. Perfect condition. $20.
Very unique piece. This young lady is called "Shy Girl". She has no face, and is meant to be turned towards the wall, but a skilled crafter might want to put a face on her. She is ~26" tall. Beautiful Nova Scotia tartan on her pleated skirt, sash, and tam o' shanter. $75
Beautiful, textured decorative (or cake?) plate. Irregular shape. The texture is actually on the bottom, including the three roses which are feet for the plate. Perfect condition. Vintage, not antique. $10
Two-tone metal duck. Perfect condition. 6" long x 3" high. Vintage, not antique. $10
We need to install a new wood furnace in the house. If any of our local fans want to recommend someone for that contract, please inbox us. :-)
Vintage 3-tone brown tea set: small teapot, creamer, sugar bowl with lid. Excellent condition. I would put them around 1960s, possibly 1970s. $25 for the whole set.
Various vintage French onion soup bowls. All excellent condition. The four lidded ones in the front are SOLD. The two unlidded ones in the middle are $8 total. The larger lidded one at the back is $5.
Three beautiful additions to our green glass collection: Left: 1950s Anchor Hocking ribbed green glass vase. ~6-1/4" tall x ~3-1/8" across the top. Perfect condition. $10 Centre: Large forest green NAPCO vase #1172. The National Potteries Corporation began production of porcelain and glass in 1938 in Ohio. They produced a lot of pieces in the 1950s and 1960s, which are collectibles now. ~8" tall and ~6" across the rim. Perfect condition. $20... Right: Hoosier pressed green glass pineapple vase. Hexagonal and hobnailed. I believe it is from the 1960s. 5.5" tall x 3" across the rim. Perfect condition. $15
Genuine 1930s Sadler ginger jar. "Blue Birds of Paradise". 5" high with the lid. 4.5" wide in the middle. Good condition, but the lid has been chipped and repaired at some point. Because of that, it's only $20.
Retro 70s 2-tone brown ceramic butter dish with barley and wildflower pattern. Perfect condition. $20. (There are a couple on etsy from $32-$49.)
Beautiful vintage vase/urn made in *the other Southampton* (Ontario). A nice piece of the history of Canadian art production. Royal Canadian Art Pottery operated in Hamilton and Southampton, Ontario. They began operation in 1946 as a subsidiary of Foley Potteries Ltd. By the 1960s, they were the largest teapot manufacturer in North America. Art pottery production began in 1968; so, this vase is probably about 50 years old, and it is in perfect condition. Beautiful glaze on it. 6" high and 3.75" across the rim. $25. I see the matching pitcher on etsy for $28 if you feel like making a pair.
Home-made vintage beer stein. Made in September 1980, initialled underneath by the potter. 8" high. 3" across the rim. 4" across the base. Holds 1.2 litres (almost 4 beers ;-) ). Perfect condition. $10
Beautiful, vintage Chinese soup bowl. Really interesting pattern. 7" across the rim. 3" deep. Perfect condition. $5
Pair of lusterware footed candy dishes from Castle China in Japan. Hand painted. Heavily gilded. Many of their pieces are marked Occupied Japan, but these are not; so, they may be from the 1950s, instead. Perfect condition. $80 for the pair.
I've made a final decision that we won't open this year. The covid restrictions are onerous, and the tourists just aren't around this summer. Any and all pieces in the photo albums are still availalble; we just need to make arrangements to get it to you. All this doesn't stop us from continuing to restore the house to its former glory, though. We recently spruced up the front entrance. Repainted the white. The green trim had a blue layer underneath. So, I split the difference and went with turquoise. The final coat will be darker ... this pastel is just a primer, but I am actually really liking it. How does it look, Lorne Smith descendants? I think of you distant cousins every time I restore the house a bit.
130-year-old book "Carlowrie or, Among Lothian Folk". A piece of fiction written by Scottish author Annie S. Swan. This edition was published in 1889. As you leaf through the front of the book, you can see in the attached pictures that it was owned by the Trafalgar St. Methodist Sunday School in Mitchell and then the East Leicester Methodist Sunday School and by Mabel Greeno of Chapman Settlement. It would have been a valuable book, but the binding is totally shot. It might have some sentimental value to someone from that area of Cumberland County or to someone who restores books. $10, due to its condition.
I have still not decided if/when to open this summer with semi-regular hours. A lot depends on whether tourism in general starts up. For now, I will open by appointment or, if you see a piece you like in the many photo albums, let me know, and I will arrange to get it to you. Have a great summer.
Happy Friday! I had a request online this week for McCoy Pottery, which led me to take a quick photo inventory of my remaining pieces. What you see in the pictures is the last of it. If you want a piece, go into the photo album called The Real McCoy. Sizes and prices are in there. If you want a piece, message me, and we'll figure out how to get it to you. :-)
I've had a couple of enquiries about when we are opening this year. Usually, that is sometime in May but, of course, I want to see how the covid restrictions are looking in May before I plan an opening. Antiques are, after all, not something you absolutely have to have right now. When I do open, there will be a few new antiques (is that an oxymoron?), the general store will be restocked for the summer, the airbnb room will be available, and there will be quite a lot of alpaca fibre products from Hampton Farms. Stay tuned and stay safe. :-)
SOLD. Large set of Longchamp crystal. Not antique. 29 pieces: champagne glasses, 2 sizes of wine glasses, water glasses, and whiskey tumblers. The number is odd because I took out any that were chipped. These ones are in excellent condition. On eBay, you can see that Longchamp sells for $5-$20 *per glass*. The champagne glasses are $20. This entire set is worth about $300, but I will take $50. More pictures in the comments.
Vintage squirrel & nut salt & pepper shakers from 1951. About 2.5" tall and very good condition. $5 for the pair.
Vintage bar piece. Michelob blackboard / mirror sign. Nice size: 30.5" x 17". Good condition. Frame is plastic, not wood. $100
I believe this refers to the Pugsley Pharmacy. We have one of their medicine bottles in our collection.
1950s banana-head salt & pepper shakers made in Japan. Must be hand-painted, as the eyes go in slightly different directions on the 2 pieces. Good condition except that both need a new cork. They are ~2.5 tall and wide and quite flat: ~.75" thick. They won't hold a lot of salt & pepper; so, I think they are better display pieces. $10
Beautiful collector's plate from the "Our Cherished Seas" collection. This is "Palace of the Seals" from an original painting by Sy Barlowe. The limited edition plate number is on the back. 9" with a gilded rim. Excellent condition. $10. Display rack included. Sy Barlowe traveled extensively to photograph animals for reproduction in their illustrated books, including references and encyclopedias. He passed away in 2000.
Another vintage cast iron Stanley tool - the No. 80 cabinet scraper plane. Still very sharp. $40
Sold, pending delivery. Cute little vintage cut (or pressed) glass jar with floral lid. No idea of its age or original use. Smells like it had a scented cream in it. $4
SOLD. Vintage cast iron Stanley plane (No. 78). Made in Canada. Stanley began producing tools at Roxton Pond, Quebec ~1908; however, I don't know when they stopped manufacturing here, so I don't know the age of this piece. I have seen that some of these planes are ~1945. Nice solid piece for an antique tool collector or woodworker. $40
