A massive engineering projectwith a geoscience twistwill soon make history in Alberta. Carbon emissions produced by the North West Redwater Sturgeon Refinery and the nearby Nutrien fertilizer plant will be captured and liquified, then piped through the 240-kilometre Alberta Carbon Trunk Line to a facility near Clive, north of Red Deer. From there, the CO will be pumped 1,800 metres underground into depleted oil reservoirs, helping push out previously unrecoverable oil whil...e remaining permanently trapped in the porous rocks. No other crude oil produced in the world will have a lower net carbon impact than the oil recovered from the Clive field. When we think of engineering, we often consider something being designed, created, or constructed. But there’s a lesser-known subset of the profession that sounds more like what you’d see on CSI: Crime Scene Investigationforensic engineering. Brian Thicke, P.Eng., is one of these engineers. Brought in to investigate why something didn’t work. Read his story on discoverapega.ca: https://bit.ly/31QIoxw #APEGA100 #ACenturyWellBuilt

The annual ceremony originated as a prank amongst peers. The tradition continues today with each past-president receiving a vest with colours or patterns that speak to their personal history. Vests cover the spectrum with solids, paisleys, tartans, checks, and much more. In the photos here, a wide range of vests can be seen on the past-presidents present at the 2019 Summit Awards. In the past few years, sashes have been added to the mixfemale presidents receive a sash and ve...st for flexibility in terms of wardrobe choices. Past-President Nima Dorjee, P.Eng., is pictured here in his colourful vest, which is a nod to his Tibetan heritage. #APEGA100 #ACenturyWellBuilt
