What a great experience! Here is an album of some of our members who were able to attend the Hitachi Construction Truck Plant Tour this past Oct 8, 2013 in Guelph, ON. We plan to do more of this type of activity as the learning curve is steep when we are able to see how our learned theories are actually applied. The tour guide explained to us many details regarding the processes of manufacturing 300 units of such a massive size each year. These mining trucks had a sellin...g price of $650,000 to $3,000,000 each! Being the only manufacturer of this product in all of North America, we were told all about their manufacturing process as well as their logistical processes for transporting these massive pieces all over the world upon a sales transaction. The weight of each piece was so heavy and large that each piece moved to another section of the pant for assembly by crane. Our group really enjoyed this experience and APICS Toronto was kind enough to treat us to coffee and donuts after the tour as. Don't miss out and join us for our next event! If you haven't yet joined...make sure to first register or APICS at www.apics.org. By uploading your timetable you will only have to pay a student fee of $25 for the year membership with them. This is an APICS fee, not one by our Centennial club. Once you have registered, email us at [email protected] with your member ID and we will keep you posted on any events our club will participate in. Our goal is to help you network to find a job upon graduation...many of our members have already accumulated business cards and contacts who have expressed interest to speak to them when graduated!

Newest Centennial APICS members joined us for an evening they both were so happy that they came to!

Centennial APICS members enjoyed a very informative evening learning about "Why Risk is the New Driver of Sustainability" by guest speaker, Bob Willard. This evening began with an hour to mix, mingle and network, followed by a delicious dinner for this Toronto Chapter Annual General Meeting/Dinner.

For those students who have registered for this Thursday's Annual General Meeting and Dinner at the Westin Prince Hotel who need a ride from Centennial and back, please meet us at Second Cup no later than 5pm in the L building! If this is the first you are hearing of this event, you are then not in our mailing list of members, so please contact us with your member ID that you got at www.apics.org and email [email protected] to be added. You will be kept in the loop for all future networking events!

What a great seminar! Tonight a group of Centennial APICS members went to a networking seminar about Optimizing Inventory, with guest speaker Dennis Lord. It was a great experience for us to listen to a speaker who works in the field and be able to follow along with group conversations. This helps us know we are well on track with our education in comparison to industry trends! In particular, our team was able to discuss the new SAP HANA coming to the industry in which an...alytics will be the main focus for our future careers starting in the next couple years...we impressed the speaker! Experiences like this help us feel prepared for a new career when the time comes...and it definitely helps when you look down at a handful of business cards of professionals who work for companies we all hope to work for one day. This particular seminar is held with a new topic once a month so keep an eye out for our next one so we can all go together! Keep in mind...we will be operating throughout the summer semester as well! Good luck with your finals!
