The doorway to perfect health opens inward. ~ Fabrizio Mancini I love that quote. In order to truly heal, we need to go deep within to do the inner work and make the journey from our head to our heart. Sometimes we have to take the long and winding road to arrive at the place in our lives where we are meant to be.... All disharmonies in our body are messages to let us know that something is out of alignment and needs tending to. Each and every one of us has different areas in our lives that need to change in order to restore balance. Our personal journey helps us to understand ourselves on a deeper level by forcing us to look within. It’s up to us to make the necessary changes in our lives and start nourishing all the aspects of who we are. Self-care is a really important aspect of healing. Oftentimes we need to either go through a struggle or a traumatic event to come to that realization. Here are some things you can do that I have found helpful: Rest when you need to. Say no when you need to manage your energy properly. Choose not to react to negative people or events. Start paying attention to the stories and meanings you attach to things. Learn to take time for yourself. Be kind to yourself. Don’t take on the responsibilities or problems of others; simply be an ear and listen. Find joy in your everyday existence and make peace with what is. Spend time alone; meditate, write, sketch, do some yoga, or simply sit quietly for a few minutes each day and do absolutely nothing. Embrace your down time. Additionally, you can reflect on these questions to guide your decisions: Does my life feel balanced? Am I involved in too many things? Is there too much on my plate? How much of my time is spent caring for others? For myself? Is there a dream or desire that I'd like to focus on that keeps getting put off? We ordered another Good Food Box from @foodshareto and got amazing produce. The collard greens were beautiful and huge. I decided to stuff them with lentils, brown rice and mushrooms.and bake them. It is the same recipe I created for cabbage rolls. As the weather starts to get colder I tend to add a lot of fresh ginger and turmeric to our meals to create warmth. Our thoughts and emotions have an electromagnetic frequency that affects every cell in our body. I always say, be careful what you are thinking, because your cells are listening. Our thoughts are waves of energy and the thoughts that occupy our mind are where the energy is flowing. The lower frequency waves or thoughts are based on fear and create feelings of limitation, separation and powerlessness. The higher frequency waves are based on love, acceptance, unity, inner s...trength, power and feeling connected. Love transcends all other feelings and emotions; it is the energy that heals us. When we habitually experience repetitive, negative, low frequency thoughts and emotions, the energy tends to stagnate, congeal cause blockages, depleting us of energy. Over time, if not resolved, it will lead to physical blockages causing disease. When you realize that the world we see merely reflects our own internal frame of reference, you then have the choice to work on yourself to change your perceptions, and thereby see things more accurately. I like this quote by Richard Bach, because it always seems to fit, Change the way you see things and the things aroun...d you will change. Although true, it is usually difficult because we are caught in our own drama. If we could just step back and observe things objectively, without emotions or attachment, then we would perceive things more clearly, even notice things we missed when caught in our own bias. I was craving comfort food and made this cauliflower mash with mushroom vegetable fricassee last night. My family loved it. I left out the vegan butter and used a small amount of olive oil instead. I also didn’t use the white wine. I added potatoes and steamed both the cauliflower and potatoes as opposed to boiling. It was delicious! As an unexpected benefit, the need for social distancing has provided many of us with much needed personal boundaries. At some point in our lives we all need to face our souls, as Carl Jung once wrote, and do inner work on ourselves in order to... heal and transform. I have become aware that the only way to have healthy, nurturing relationships is for both people involved to look within themselves and recognize unhealthy patterns so they can do the necessary work to transform. Personal boundaries are physical, emotional, spiritual, or relational limits that define us as separate from others. Setting boundaries means that instead of taking on other people’s beliefs, standards, and feelings, we become in tune with our own. The homework for my nutrition class this week is to not complain for 7 days. It is harder than you think. Your everyday language impacts your life. Blaming, complaining and staying stuck in negative thoughts only attracts more of the same. Start noticing the things you tend to complain about and try to find the positive. As an example, my father always said, "never complain about working because not everyone has the energy or the ability to work" The words we use and the tho...ughts we have affect how we feel. They lead to our choices that create our experiences. For the next week try to become mindful of your thoughts and slow down your speech so you can catch the complaints before they leave your mouth. I love having something sweet after dinner. This cake and even the icing is made from dates. When using dates youdon't need sugar because they are so sweet and delicious. Dates are a good source of vitamins A, B and are rich in minerals such as iron, calcium manganese and potassium along with fiber. You need to use a good quality vanilla powder. I used the one from Giddy Yoyo. This cake reminds me of those unhealthy store boxed cakes that people serve on birthdays. Click the link in my bio for this recipe!
