Archers Association of Nova Scotia 22.09.2020

Archery Day in Canada is this Saturday! To kick off celebrations we will be highlighting archers, coaches, and judges leading up to Archery Day! In case you mis...sed it, we are holding a member-submitted contest where you can win an Archery Canada Prize Pack if you use #ArcheryDayCanada to tell us about your archery journey! Today we will be highlighting Trudy Dryden, VP of Archery New Brunswick, Dorothy Lidstone Female Archery of the Year recipient for 2019, and member of the team that won Silver at the 2019 World Archery 3D Championships in Lac La Biche! This is her journey. I started into archery around 1997 because my husband had taken up the sport and I wanted to be with him. I started with a compound bow shooting target and then moved to 3D. Again because of my husband changing discipline to traditional archery, I followed. The main reason we switched was because of the simplicity in traditional archery. With a compound bow you had to almost be a bow mechanic and enjoy tinkering which we did not. The equipment and add-ons were always changing. Over the years I was fortunate to be able and have the financial means to attend archery clinics given by top archers who moved on to be coaches. They had been at the top and knew what it took to improve the archery skills of the average archer. As my archery skills improved I started comparing my scores with other top archers in Canada. Those archers became my role model. One such person was Fred Streleoff. He was always very patient in answering any questions I had whether it had to do with equipment or the mental aspect.

Clubs and Members: I hope you are safe and healthy during these uncertain times. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the Provincial State of Emergency being extended to May 17th, Archery Nova Scotia has made the decision to extend the suspension of all Events and archery related activity within the Province until June 30, 2020.... Archery Nova Scotia will continue to monitor the situation based on the Provincial guidelines and health advisory statements to determine how best to proceed at that time. The Board of Directors based their decision on World Archery and Archery Canada suspending all Events until July 31st, recommendations from the Sport Advisory Committee of Canada, and the uncertainty around insurance coverage and liability during a State of Emergency. I know this is a challenging situation for all, and I appreciate your due diligence in protecting yourself, and others, by adhering to social distancing restrictions and reminding you to comply with Municipal, Provincial, and Federal emergency protocols. Clubs that are located on Provincial or Municipal parkland, do not fall within the scope of Nova Scotia’s exceptions for lessened access restrictions. As long as Nova Scotia has declared a State of Emergency, coverage for liability insurance for Clubs, members, and registrants, is still in question and activities are not supported. The Board will continue to monitor the situation on an ongoing basis. If you have any questions, please reach out to me and/or Emily. Thank you, Melanie Lefler President, Archery Nova Scotia
