This stair was so much fun to design, we just blew all the walls off it!

For every house that gets built there are probably 4 in the drawer, a shame some homes never see the light of day. This is one of my favorite designs, on the shelf for now, but maybe you'll see it next Spring on Sumas Mountain!

When you draw a shape like this for a porch you just know someone is going to be in a hole in the middle of winter cursing you. But man this crew is awesome and fast, SIPS coming in a week!

Now we used to build models the old fashion way back in architecture school. Grab the sharpest blade you could find, some bass wood, elmers, a disk man, and stay up all night, but this, this is just insanity! 9 years haha

People tend to focus on energy efficiency and carbon footprint when they talk about building green, but the real innovators are finding ways to meet today's energy requirements while using safe, non-toxic, and local building products. It's not an easy task because we are often fighting against budget, by-laws, and building codes that can restrict experimentation with new materials and construction methods, and often default to a "this is how we do it" attitude, whether right or wrong. I like this article because it gives a few simple choices to make that will improve your air quality and health, without too much effort.

One of the perks of designing custom stairs is that I am in and out of so many incredible homes. And when the client comes to you with a great vision for their stair, that's just icing on the cake. Stay tuned!
