If you've been over to my Stories this morning, you'll have seen my big confession... It's quite surprising for many to hear and there's a reason for it. In the Arctic, we don't have trees. So we end up having to fly them up north for Christmas - which is both expensive and a major headache. Local stores sell them regularly now-a-days (not so much when I was little tho), but often quite late in the season and I usually like to get my 'Christmas On' by mid-November. I also cam...e to learn a long time back that artificial trees were overall better for the environment - as they had a lower carbon footprint and reduced deforestation (which now has changed and is largely less of an environment-saver in the long-run). So as a result, we have always had faux trees at Christmas. Nevertheless, all these years I've been dreaming of having a real tree of my own. So what changed? Well, 2020. Life's too short not to treat yourself to something nice and my life-long obsession with trees (I was such a neglected tree-less child) finally brought me to this moment. Like a kid on Christmas day, I finally got my wish and MY VERY OWN REAL TREE (seriously though, I nearly cried/peed myself with excitement when it arrived!!! That AMAZING smell!!)!! Thankfully it was much easier to arrange than I ever thought, thanks to the amazing folks at @northernshopper, who made sure I had the prettiest darn tree ever, and with shipping included (from Ottawa to Iqaluit) it came to around $86. Seriously?! I should have bought 3. So tell me - which way do you swing when it comes to Christmas trees? Real or Faux?
Hi there! I'm Colleen. Popping my head up again to say hi and let you all know that there's a real person behind all the pretty pics. . We've been quite busy over here at the ArcticDeco office with lots of catching up to do following our recent Nunavut-wide Covid19 lock down. But we're finally back to regular operating hours this week. ... . For anyone interested in working with us this coming year, especially this summer, we are not accepting new clients until February 2021, so please get in touch (via our website or msg) soonest so that you can get a spot on our waiting list. . Have a great day everyone! See more
Dark. Oh man, the days are getting so short now! Here in Iqaluit we get about 22hrs of darkness in the winter, and it can definitely take a toll. I worked past lunch today and realize I missed the sun and now have to run errands in the dark. Gahhh!! I'm so looking forward to being on the other side of the solstice this year. How are you all doing managing the dark this winter?... #darkestofdark
Home. It's where we've been stuck for week,
