Chemistry 11 looking at how methane gas reacts to fire! (all safety precautions in place!) First, the student dips her hand into a bucket of soapy water to coat the hand. Then she scoops a handful of methane-filled soap bubbles. Then, the bubbles are lit using a lighter. The experiment is harmless and the student is in no danger, but we'd recommend you don't try this unless you're under the supervision of a trained science professional like Ms. Wedel. #experientiallearning
Highstreet Digital Media Gallery is on display. We are thrilled to partner again with the Highstreet Shopping Center and to have our student work on show throughout the area. Find the map here: https://sumasmountain.abbyschools.ca//ASIA%20Sumas%20at%20
We are so proud to share this video with you. Every year our school commemorates Remembrance Day through the arts in a very special way. We knew that this year, our annual ceremony could not be the same so our dedicated staff and students created this video on our theme, Faces of War. Through exploring this theme, our students use artistic expression to share their learning. Today, our whole community stopped and shared at the exact same time this compilation of drama, dance, music, creative writing, and art. We encourage you to watch but watch to watch with your family. Share this with your loved ones that you cannot be with at this time and together remember the soldiers that are no longer with us but who must be credited with upholding the democracy of Canada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk1HpCqWZAI

How exciting to see what our senior visual artists are doing at home!
Here is how we are welcoming our new students for 2020/21 who would have been visiting our school this May. Way back in 2016, our school created a Rube Goldberg Machine that wound its way through the building, highlighting the arts and our students. (see some young faces in there?) We have sent scavenger hunt questions to challenge our new students to get to know our building. Here are some of the questions, take a tour of ASIA Sumas and see how you fare in the hunt! https://...www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZMT497-f4k Questions for while you watch the Film: 1. In the office: How many secretaries are there? 2. In the upstairs high school science classroom: there is a skeleton! What is on his back? 3. In the upstairs high school English classroom: How many chairs are in the pyramid? 4. How does the ball get from the school upstairs to the grade 8 portable outside? 5. How many seconds does it take for the reaction to go from entering the Gym to the stage? 6. On the main floor by the office how many umbrellas are opened in a line? 7. How many people push the big ball down the path outside? 8. In the Digital Media Arts Lab: What happened on the screens? 9. In the grade 6 hallway: What song are the grade 6 students playing with their wooden blocks? 10. In the upper parking lot: A band is playing. How many students are playing? 11. On the field, something is spelt. What is that word? 12. Bonus: What went wrong during the filming?
