Atlantic salmon depend on dedicated conservationists. If some populations are listed under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) this year, it could sever the crucial relationship between salmon and the people who care for them. Follow the link to learn why salmon need people, and what you can do to help. https://www.peopleforsalmon.com

1700 Atlantic salmon returned to Maine rivers in 2020. It’s a fraction of the historic runs, but an exciting uptick for populations that were close to the brink. To see more of them, and learn about the conservation efforts that are bringing them back, check out our new Maine Headwaters Project video. https://www.asf.ca/our-work/restoration
DFO has extended the deadline for public submissions on the proposal to list some populations of Atlantic salmon under the Species at Risk Act (SARA). SARA has proven to be an ineffective conservation tool, and could even hamper important conservation efforts for Atlantic salmon. Please tell DFO that salmon need people, and that SARA isn’t a good fit. https://www.peopleforsalmon.com/write-dfo
When dams come down, fish come back! For over twenty years, ASF has been involved in river restoration projects on various watersheds in Maine. The results have been nothing less than inspiringrejuvenated ecosystems and rebounding migratory fish populations. To learn more about ASF’s habitat restoration work, check out https://www.asf.ca/our-work/restoration
From the river bank or up above, the problem of runoff in the Restigouche is apparent. Now local groups, Gespe'gewaq Mi'gmaq Resource Council and the Restigouche River Watershed Management Council, are taking action with huge silt traps. Crazy pictures. https://www.asf.ca//potato-farms-and-sediment-solutions-on

"The thing about federal rules is that there aren’t supposed to be second-class citizens or poor cousins." - Fisheries and Oceans Canada is pushing ahead with reforms to make salmon aquaculture less damaging to wild fish and the environment in B.C., but not Atlantic Canada, an irony and unfairness well summed up here. https://www.thetelegram.com//russell-wangersky-ocean-gees/

We’re hosting a public engagement session for The Campbell Creek Restoration Project on the 23rd July at 7:00 pm. The project is a 4-year partnership between NG...Os, Wolastoqey (Maliseet) communities/ organizations, and the City of Fredericton. A major component of the restoration is the removal of the derelict, 100-year old Campbell Creek Dam. The dam does not meet the Canadian Dam Association Guidelines in terms of public safety, spillway capacity, or stability. The project is funded by the Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Atlantic Salmon Conservation Foundation. Register in advance for this webinar: http://ow.ly/tK0F50AzbKG #BuildBackBetter #WaterQuality #MyNashwaak #eauNBwater

Due to a 10 year record dry spell, we are temporarily closing crown land for recreational activity and advising folks to avoid the woods completely. I'm sorry about this, but our woods are at major risk of fire right now.
New Brunswick’s Crown Reserve Waters are now CLOSED, as are all crown lands as of this morning, Friday, June 19, 2020. Those on Crown Reserve Waters must leave and they are cancelled for those with upcoming reservations. According to the government, refunds will be given. Parties on the water will receive a visit from rangers and informed. People starting today through Monday have been or will be contacted. The decision was made based on the ultra-dry conditions, with forest fire destruction already well above average.
