ARE BENEFITS TAXABLE TO MY EMPLOYEES? Health and dental plan premiums are a deductible business expense and they are a TAX-FREE benefit for your employees. It's actually more tax efficient to provide a benefit plan for your employees, rather than offering them a higher wage so they can go out and pay for their own personal health plans. ... TRAVEL INSURANCE OPTIONS FOR COVID-19: Now that most of the population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and many more are on their way to being fully vaccinated, some travel restrictions are being lifted around the globe. Many travelers are excited to resume their out of country travel planning, but what options are available to get emergency medical travel insurance for COVID-19 related illnesses? Many of the travel insurance companies have recently li...fted some of their restrictions relating to COVID-19 illnesses. Most insurers have implemented COVID-19 health stability clauses prior to travelling ranging from 90 to 180 days. This means that if you were infected and/or treated for COVID-19 within 90 to 180 days prior to your departure date, you would not be eligible for insurance coverage. Some prior stability periods may also be determined by the travelers age, younger individuals will require a shorter stability period and older individuals will have a longer stability period. As well, any out of country medical costs relating to COVID-19 while travelling will have a maximum limit of for example $500,000, or up to whatever the limit the travel policy indicates. Keep in mind that the Canadian Government is still not recommending "non-essential" travel at this time, so there might be some limitations on insurance options available depending on the country of destination. If you have questions about travel insurance options, or would like some travel insurance quotes - our team of advisors can help you out! www.auroraworkplace.ca #travelinsurance #healthbenefits #travelling #insurancebroker #healthinsurance

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHORT AND LONG TERM DISABILITY? Disability insurance is one of the most important types of insurance in the marketplace. It is designed to help replace your income if you can't work due to injury, or illness. The biggest thing to remember is that if you can't work, your living expensed don't change...you'll still have your rent/mortgage payments, utility expenses, groceries, cell phone, car payments, etc. SHORT-TERM DISABILITY (STD)... If a employee needs to take time off work because they were unable to do the majority of their regular duties due to injury, or illness and they must be under a doctors supervision. The STD would replace a percentage of their pre-disability income, most often with tax-free money. Usually there is a short waiting period of between 1 to 7 days depending on whether the reason was due to an injury, or an illness. The STD coverage will usually last about 113 to 120 days depending on the policy wording. LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD) Once the STD, or EI sickness benefit (Employment Insurance if there is no STD coverage) has ended, the LTD benefit will take over and start paying a income replacement similar to the STD benefit. The employee must continue to be unable to perform the majority of their regular duties due to injury, or illness and they must be under a doctor s supervision. Generally the benefit payout will be as long as 2 or 5 years, or up to age 65 depending on the policy wording. Disability insurance is intended to protect the employee and their family from financial hardship in the event they can't work due to their personal health. Whether you're a business owner, employee, or self employed professional, let us know how we can help you protect your most valuable asset...your ability to earn an income! www.auroraworkplace.ca #employeebenefits #groupbenefits #healthbenefits #disabilityinsurance #yxebusiness #workplacewellness #smallbusiness #HRbenefits

EMPLOYEE BENEFIT TIPS - WHY UPDATE EMPLOYEE INFORMATION? It's easy for most small businesses to get caught up in the day to day administration tasks and overlook small things like wage increases, employee's getting married/divorced, having children, etc. It's important to set aside some time each month to make sure these material lifestyle changes don't get missed: - updating employee salaries makes sure they're eligible for the correct disability income benefits. ... - adding employees and their dependents within 30 days of eligibility ensures that they have access to full benefit coverage so that they aren't considered "late-applicants" and need to provide medical evidence to be approved. - it also ensures that the employees who have left your company aren't still appearing on your premium statements and eliminates unnecessary billing adjustments. Let us show how we can help you reduce errors and eliminate any potential costly liability issues! www.auroraworkplace.ca #employeebenefits #groupbenefits #healthbenefits #yxebusiness #smallbusiness #hrpolicies #benefitsadministration
