And it's alive! Always a good sign hearing that engine roar to life. This project is 1 of 3 that arrived this year as a "please help me finish the restoration". First on the list was to get it running. This is the BJ7 from yesterday that had all the fuel line issues. We had to sync up the carbs once we installed the new lines, and as they say, we're off to the races!... Now to finish the rest of the assembly so it can go back home to Ottawa! See more
Bit of a tech tip from the BJ7 that the owner couldn't get to run: be careful where you jack the car up - ie/ don't squash the fuel line. Also, ensure your soldered ends are tight and also try to minimize the number of joints between the tank, pump and carbs. All opportunities for the pump to suck air or leak! The rubber line also had spider nests in it
Tackling roof frames this week. The BN1 had some odd repairs done at some point in it's life, with some parts not being reassembled correctly. So we un-did the bows and fixed that up and employed a big hammer to get the odd bends put back in place. The BJ7 frame is actually disassembled ...someone thought it would be a good idea during their restoration. Going to see about getting it back together after the new hood is finished being installed on the 100.
Tree trimming at Autofarm today. About an hour and it was all over!! One big pine and a big maple both not looking too healthy. Sure let's more light in.
Before and after....ready to go home to it's owner!
Fall picture Friday!! Good morning for a test drive!! A bit cool at only 5 degrees celcius . No chance of overheating!!
Yep!!! Its Front End Friday!!
Added some wing beading to this BN2 and a bit of "flash" on the sides!!
Final checking of this overdrive unit before getting it boxed up to go home . Just some final adjustments to the solenoid needed.
Here's a Flashback Friday to this day 7 years ago when we began our expansion and the 'new' shop this morning in a frosty fog.
Occasionally something other than a Healey gets in the shop!! Why not. A new inner wheel arch and shock mount fitting.
Full house at the Farm this afternoon. A few of the Healeys that are here for work...believe it or not, we have more not in the picture!
Side view Saturday!!
Starting the week out on a noisy note! Now to see whats left of this early BJ8 when hes done.
Looky, looky.... We have lift-off! Still a LOT of "moving shop" that still has to happen, but at least we're operational!
Installing some draught excluder today. Finishing touches in this BN1 interior.
New hoist, overhead workstation crane and moved a hoist from our old shop into our new shop, getting closer!! A bit more moving and setting up tomorrow!
Before and after today!!
Got this front valance fit, adjusted, painted and final fit to this BN1. Looking good!!
Finally got the last of the new parts needed to reassemble this overdrive unit. Finish it up tomorrow and do some run tests. Will keep you posted!!
A closer look at the deconstruction of this early BJ8. As you can see, fibreglass and angle iron were used liberally throughout the previous restoration when the Corvette engine was installed. They hammer-fit the big engine, and in the meantime, wreaked havoc on the frame and substructure. Not even the steering column was spared. It has a nice curved line to it now...not even sure how a person could drive this on the road as it doesnt turn all the way. However - as you can see, the original Healey Blue shines through in those hidden spots. We have a brand new UK built frame that is far superior to those on the market locally as well as a Healey engine and gearbox to go in it when the time comes. Next is sandblasting...taking bets on how much of the structure will be left ;)...LOL
When the bolts wont come out, sometimes they need convincing with some heat. Hence the smoke. Stay tuned for what is as close to a basket case as they come. Hard to believe that once were done with this one, itll be like a brand new car. More pics to follow of what a hack job 80s restoration looks like.
Just coming on the market...
Sprites are the name of the game so far this week! Both ready to go home. 1 with brand new Minilites, a better fitting roof and now working reverse lights. The other with a brand new rad, brakes that actually work and a once over done on both of them to ensure reliability. A few BIG Healeys coming back in over the next few days again.
Taking care of this wee fellow today! Hes in for a wheel makeover, some maintenance and a roof adjustment. We had a MGB in earlier and a TR3....variety is the spice of life!
Burning the midnight oil here tonight. Just turned the lights off on the new roof, tonneau and rear engine seal installs for this BN6. The red & white BN2 is patiently waiting for the rest of its newly sandblasted and painted parts to be re-installed. Working as fast as we can to keep our customers happy!
Believe it or not, this BT7 will come together before long! Off to have some aluminum welding done this morning. Cant wait to see the results!
Roof frame fitting to this BN6. Some adjustments were needed to the frame.
Got another box the other day, it had an overdrive in it. Very well packed! Sent to us to assess and rebuild as necessary. Got a start to it today. See the pics and notes on each picture.
A closer look at the all aluminium panel set including complete aluminum doors and rally vents installed.
Got a big box delivered today! Pretty exciting!! Check out what was inside. A complete set of aluminium fenders(wings?) and complete aluminum doors! The front fenders have rally vents as already installed.
Step by step rear crank seal install. Looks pretty simple !! Description on each photo.
I wonder if well find a pot of gold? Bit of a wild storm blowing over us tonight!
Brake day in the shop for this little Bugeye. This car is here for a no-start issue as well as a brake system check-up. So far we have got it running and have the front brakes off. Hopefully get it wrapped up and home again soon!
So disappointed for our customer! We just delivered his Healey back to him on Sunday to enjoy for the rest of the driving season, and now its back again. We spent a lot of time installing a new exhaust, radiator, repairing various items and re-building the carbs for him so hed enjoy trouble-free driving. And now this We have to look at it more tomorrow but we have some extensive repairs to do to the shroud, fender and grille area. ... Glad no-one was hurt, which is the most important thing! See more
1st run looking like a Healey for the first time in a long time
Electrical sorted out today. Found a few surprises hiding under some old tape. Replaced a few feet of wires and added some inline fuse. When going through the rear brakes we couldnt help ourselves but paint over the yellow with some correct looking silver. Much better now!!
And it does run!! After checking everything , twice. We fired up this long sitting project for the first time in maybe 15 or more years! Small coolant leak and a small exhaust leak but all checks out ok!! Good oil pressure, rocker arm clearance good. May need a new belt for reliability. Time to get on and tidy up the wiring and get some doors on! Oh, and go through all the brake system too.
Picking up the pieces on someone elses project isnt always an easy task. This restoration was started several years ago by the owner and was left to the side for quite a long while. So we have to spend some time trying to assess what has been done, what is left outstanding and what needs re-evaluated. At this point it doesnt run and the electrics are sketchy at best. You can see what else needs finishing. But its on the hoist and Tom is eliminating issues as he works... his way through the car. As you can see in one of the pictures, the main battery cable was in very poor, deteriorating condition. So that is being replaced as we speak! At the end of the day, the owner doesnt want a "show car" but its our job to give him a safe, reliable driver! See more
Two-tone day in the shop! 3 different variations.
Not often get to be a passenger, took advantage of the navigators seat!
Short video of the excess play in carb shaft. This one was overdue for new bushings and shaft.
HD6 carbs in need of new shafts and bushings.took apart, cleaned, new bushings installed with new shafts and reassembled. Good to go back on the car!!
Seeing as Tom & I are just getting into our own Bugeye project, I was doing a little looking around at past projects weve had here at Autofarm. This particular restoration was finished in 2008. Came across this picture of the interior - note the awesome little baby seat!! And the red big Healey beside it is an actual race car.... We helped the owner sell the car and it is currently whizzing around tracks in Europe! See more
Happy Canada Day to all our friends, followers & customers! While its difficult to celebrate in the ways we may be used to - take the time to enjoy your family - and maybe your Healey - on such a beautiful day in this country we call our own!
Nice visit this morning despite all the rain!! Fit a new tonneau cover to this unique coloured 1600 MGA. Hope they didnt get too wet on their way home!
Happy Fathers Day to the father & son team here at Autofarm, Tom & Bob, and to all the dads that follow us here! Heres a couple of Healey artistic pieces to help celebrate the day! Hope you all have a great Fathers Day!
Yep!!! Thats a trailer load of second hand Healey parts. Some good reusable bits and some not so good....but you gotta take the good with the bad!! Now to find a spot to put it.
