Blog Alert Bri: Why I’m doing the Open... @brikrush . . . Q: How long have you been doing CrossFit/Functional Fitness?... . . A: I've been doing CrossFit since the fall of 2018 and I joined Aux in the summer of 2019! . . Q: How many opens have you participated in (either fill or partial): . . A: This will be my third Open! I did my first Open about a month after I started and my very first RX workout was 19.1! . . Q: Why have you decided to do the CrossFit Open this year? . . A: The Open is like CrossFit Christmas! I love the Open as a marker of my fitness level, so even though that might be lower this year, it's a testament to the fact that through this pandemic, I kept showing up. Aux kept showing up for us, we kept showing up as a community, and I kept showing up for myself. I'm glad for the chance to participate in something global like the Open, even if it has been reimagined for the current circumstances. . . Q: What would you say to encourage others to do the same? . . A: I encourage people to lean into things that bring a feeling of joy and mastery - and the Open brings both of those things for a lot of people. Everything about the past 365 days has been different, and the Open is different, too. Wow, time flies! . . . Q: How many opens have you participated in (either fill or partial)? . . . A: The 2021 Open will mark my 8th consecutiveCrossfit Open. . . . Q: Why have you decided to do the CrossFit Open this year? Since this year will mark my 8th Crossfit Open in a row, not even a global pandemic can stop this streak! I've done the Open through 2 pregnancies, milestone life changes, so doing an Open during a lock-down just keeps things interesting ;) : In all seriousness though, it's a way to keep me accountable, track progress from year to year, and have some fun with an amazing community. . . . Q: What would you say to other members? . . . A: if you're a member of Aux, you're going to be doing the Open workouts anyway, so why not join in on the fun, officially? This is arguably the best time of the year at Aux, we're all in good spirits, have a reason to really push ourselves, rally around each other (virtually), and celebrate our fitness accomplishments. You won't regret signing up. . . . Anything else you’d like to add? . . I've been a member of Aux for the better part of a decade, I've seen a lot of changes - 3 gym locations, change in ownership, amazing coaches come and go, but one thing remains constant: Aux has shown unwavering commitment to their members by providing an incredible community to be a part of, a fun and positive environment and inclusivity for all. Latest Blog Post! Alert . . Why I’m doing the Open by @f_foroughi .... . . It’s Open season and it’s been a weird year. I’m trying to decide if I’m going to register for this one. . . . We’re a year into a global pandemic. I, like many of you, have faced a lot disruptions. Most of my work day is spent in front of my computer on a Zoom conference with mute on thinking about what I should order next on Uber. It’s been a strange year of frustrations and uncertainties. The day is mostly uneventful. Finally, as I glance at my watch, it reads 3:49pm. I begin to feel excited. Only 11 more minutes until my workday ends. It means, I get to peel myself off my chair and begin a routine I look forward to. For me, this means I get to snack, hydrate, throw back a pre-workout and mentally ready myself for the 5 pm Aux Zoom workout with a few stretches. Oh, and I don’t need to change. I’m already in sweats and a t-shirt. . . . Everyday I aim to do one Zoom workout. It’s my only source of sanity that I have going for me. It’s a time that I get to see familiar faces. And while I feel like my fitness has taken a hit because of the lockdown, I know that by completing a Zoom class, I’ll have accomplished something that makes me feel great about myself. . . . The Open is fast approaching and I spent a lot of time this past week wondering if I should sign-up. I’ve ask a few friends if they’ll be registering. Their responses are mixed. Some aren’t sure if they want to spend $20 (USD) to participate in a competition that has an at-home option. The reluctance seems reasonable. After all, how do you compete if you don’t have a lot of equipment? . . . After spending some time on The Open website, I’ve decided to register. They have an at-home option. I’ve spent the larger part of the year working out at home. For me, it’s about testing my fitness in a new (but temporary) reality of being in lockdown. I also look forward to Zooming with my fellow Auxies who have largely experienced the same reality as my own. Welcome to 2021! Wow! What a year 2020 was. We should all take a moment to look back at how much we have overcome together as a community, as a city, and as a country. Despite the challenges, the majority of you made a choice to make your health and wellness a priority. We are so glad to have been part of that journey. We are still here for you. When you choose to do fitness, you are bettering your lives in such a significant way. You not only better your physical well-being.... You also better your mental well-being. We commend you all for making your health a priority. . . . Perhaps fitness hasn’t been part of your routine. That’s totally okay! We’re here for you whenever you’re ready to start.
