Hey everybody, September is here and our food bank remains open every Tuesday between 2 to 5 PM. Although we are working towards a new model where our guests can come in to pick up their groceries we are still serving our friends at the door until further notice. So far we have all stayed safe and hope you and your families are taking good care of each other.... From the Avenue Road food bank family, its our privilege to take care of you :-)

These words are from Tammy Lome, Co-founder, Project Outreach GTA. The Avenue Road Food Bank shares food we cannot store such as bread, produce and on occasions protein. ... This is why creative networking matters: To Reverend Moss, Elliot & The ARFB Team, On behalf of Project Outreach GTA, I wanted to send you a letter formally thanking your amazing team at Avenue Road Food Bank and the Church of the Messiah, for your incredibly kindness and generosity. Working together, we have brought meals to hundreds. One week, St. Felix was provided with 50 pork and lentil dish, another, it was a carrot, potato, onion and pork stew. Good Shepherd clients also received some amazing pork meals as well, and expressed their gratitude. We have also, with your support, handed out hundreds of fresh pork sandwiches, with lettuce and cheese, on buns. These are such a joy to share with our vulnerable citizens who, so often, dont have access to healthy, fresh meals. On our last outreach, after providing a particularly hungry and tired man with two sandwiches, he caught up to us as we moved on our way. He stood there, tears in his eyes, telling us how hungry he had been. He said to me "Do you know when you really love someone, and you bring them a gift just to see them smile? You all made me smile like that today. Like being loved." This, to me, represents what we accomplish together. In a society that so often becomes completely blind to those who are suffering, we let them know they are seen, valuable and cared for. Project Outreach GTA is able to reach more people, and share this message, because of all of you. The situation for our most vulnerable, sadly, has been worsened considerably by Covid-19. It is our sincere hope that will will continue to build on this connection we have made together, working cooperatively to bring food and comfort to those who need it the most. Warm Regards,Tammy Lome Co-founder, Project Outreach GTA

Our friends at Daily Bread released their post Covid report today. The numbers say it all: RISING FOOD BANK USE AND... FOOD INSECURITY DURING COVID-19 A survey conducted by Statistics Canada in May 2020 revealed that the food insecurity rate among Canadians has grown from 10.5% in 2017/18 to 14.6% during COVID-19.2 Since the pandemic began in March 2020, many food banks in Toronto saw a sharp increase in demand, with some receiving as many as three times the number of weekly visits compared to the month prior. Daily Bread member food banks are now serving close to 20,000 individuals each week, compared to approximately 15,000 in 2019, an increase of close to 25% In other words....we need your help "to be ahead of the curve".

Yes, the food bank is open. In fact, we have already seen a jump in the number of people seeking our help and we anticipate that it will keep rising. We are working hard to keep our guests and volunteers safe, and we are also working to develop new partnerships with our agencies to keep the food flowing. The best way to support us is money, as we can convert that to food more efficiently and with greater safety than we can process food donations.

Avenue Road Food Bank 09.04.2020

Welcome to the Avenue Road Food Bank--a neighborhood charity bringing food and community to those who need a need a little help. Our food bank is thankful for our partnerships and community donations that provide the food and money we need to help the hungry in Toronto. The food bank is entirely run by volunteers, so contact us if you would like to lend a hand.

Avenue Road Food Bank 17.12.2019

While the wait to get groceries our guests get treated to coffee, danishes, and sandwiches.

Avenue Road Food Bank 01.12.2019

Fun fact: since it opened less than a year ago the ARFB has received (and given away) 29,940 lbs. of food worth about $77,844 from Second Harvest, alone. The amount weve gotten from our other primary partner, Daily Bread Food Banks, is even greater. But we still need your help to pay for this food to be delivered and many related costs--support our efforts today! #FoodRescue

We made this little map to put on business cards and other print media. What kind of promotional materials do you think we should make to attract donors, volunteers, and guests?

Avenue Road Food Bank 05.11.2019

Want to support the food bank? Just make a gift of any amount to The Church of The Messiah and designate it as "Food Bank" in the message and well handle the rest (including charitable donation tax receipts). We are also able to accept checks written to the church and even credit cards--contact us to learn how. https://www.canadahelps.org//118863141RR0001-church-of-th/
