This is the work of healing the inner child. And it is good.
A valuable teaching for healing the wounded children within us, and for helping those who are deeply wounded.
As a practitioner of therapies that use one's own resources to heal childhood wounds and our inner children, I very much appreciate the Buddhist teachings to acknowledge and care for our emotions and needs. When we can say "I see you, my little anger, my little anxiety, my little sorrow....and I'm going to take very good care of you" we have reached a new level of resilience and healing.

Some great advice from the Neufeld Institute on ways to channel and change frustration. https://neufeldinstitute.org/what-to-do-with-frustration/
Big thanks to wonderful partners Central Okanagan Elizabeth Fry Society for showing up strong to support the LGBTQ+ community and our local Glitter Critters of the Etcetera Youth Group at The Bridge Youth & Family Services. This is community.
Trauma can have a profound impact on a person’s memory . . . . . . and traumatic memory can affect not only the brain, but also the body and nervous system as w...ell. That’s why we created this infographic for practitioners to share with their clients - it breaks down this process to help conceptualize trauma's impact on memory.

Quick clarification on the LGBTQ+ training I’m offering for a donation/honorarium to the Etcetera Youth Group. It’s suitable for organizations working with all ages and is customizable for your work context. #PRIDE2020
I began working with LGBTQ+ youth to make a difference. But instead, they made me different. It's not about outreach, but letting these "magic kids" reach us. Their future depends on conversations that dig deeper than rainbow flags in June. It's time. Let's do this. #pride2020
Happy Pride Month!
Much of ourselves and our lives is fluid, but we forget that we're always changing, so we get ourselves stuck.
This article is worth the read, especially if you've been hurt or have hurt someone. We all need relationships that are made up of tender but tough stuff, and you've got to go deep for that. "The ego always wants the same two things: to pretend it is separate and to pretend it is superior. To play the victim to our own advantage and for our own false empowerment is one of the most common and deceitful games that humans play. This will never give your soul comfort, nor will it comfort or heal the other, because it is not based in truth. And if we do not desire to heal and free the other, have we really forgiven them? I have had people ‘forgive’ me only to achieve their own moral superiority, but not to free or love me. You can always tell the difference. - Father Richard Rohr, The Center for Action and Contemplation
I depend on my small business for fulfillment, much more than for income. I feel deep appreciation and respect for those who have continued in their counselling journey through this difficult time. It is my great honour and privilege to walk by your side and to support your growth and healing. In the words of the great teacher Ram Dass: "We are all just walking each other home."
Big occasions can be difficult, for so many reasons. May all experience connection and compassion when things are painful.
Words of wisdom on living with uncertainty.
Need to build up your toolbox for feeling good right now? Try this collection of resources from Rick Hanson - it's working for me! https://www.rickhanson.net//just-one-thing-simple-practic/
Rejection is painful, and we seek to avoid it because nobody likes to feel that pain. But rejection also contains a valuable gift.
Happy Easter, and may you enjoy good mental health!
What things from your life are calling you to come back to them, and to view them with new eyes?
"It’s easy to treat people well when they treat you well. The real test is when they treat you badly." Dr. Rick Hanson is such a north star in my work because of his focus on resourcing people so their tools have a chance of stacking up against their challenges. Now, more than ever, we need the ability to be okay (and decent and kind to others) when everything going on around us isn't okay. #resilience
