A Message from Josie Nepinak- Executive Director of Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society

Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society 19.05.2020

In June of 2019 the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girl publishes their final report: Reclaiming Power and Place. The report l...isted 231 calls to action, stating our right to culture, right to health, right to security, and right to justice. October 4th in Alberta marks Sister in Spirit day. We come together on this day (both virtually and physically) to use our voices to honour all the women/girls/LGBTQ2s+ who have been stolen from us too. MMIW affects all Canadians, not just Indigenous Women. Help us create a safer space for all of Canada but telling us why MMIW matters to you. Make a short video to post and tag 3 friends. Are you up to the challenge: Shazeal Taylor, Shylo Rose, Chantal Stormsong Chagnon

TODAY On October the 4th, 2020 we will be continuing the traditions of honoring our loved ones by hosting a virtual Sister's In Spirit Vigil. Eight family members impacted by MMIWG2S+ have created a digital story to honor their loved ones. Join us on Facebook Live at 2:00 each day from October 4th - 8th, 2020 for a live viewing and panel discussion as these women share their powerful stories and personal experiences. Due to the implications with Covid-19 we have chosen a... virtual vigil this year to allow all of our families and the public to engage safely. This can be a difficult conversation for individuals and families. If you are feeling in need of support, please contact our crisis line at 403-531-1976.
