Yesterday for lunch I made the children mini Mexican chicken taco pizzas, it was a great hit and only one of the kiddos realized I snuck a little cabbage onto each pizza. For morning snack they had cucumber coins, carrot sticks, apple sticks, kiwi, a strawberry and a little bit of rice pudding for dipping. Today we tried out an awesome new painting technique. Epsom salt paintings. Mixing 1 cup Epsom salt to 3/4 cup boiling water and food colouring to tint it. Mix until dissolved, add as many drops of food colouring that you’d like and then have your toddlers paint away. Once dried the salts make the colour glitter and sparkle. I focus on helping children develop various life skills: through trips to various play grounds we develop gross motor skills and socialization with others. While the older children run around and play, I ...assist the smallest members on the equipment, ensuring their safety and allowing them to have a blast too. I have set up our home to include hundreds of mega blocks, letter blocks, barbies, dolls, stuffies and toys of all kinds. These toys encourage imagination and creativity through sensory and make-believe play. We complete many crafts which focus on fine motor development, stringing beads, painting, colouring, making flower gardens out of foam paper etc. I have workbooks for various ages and grade levels, dry erase pre-K workbooks and flash cards that toddlers will love to trace and scribble all over. This will help your children with language development and recognizing colours, shapes, letters and numbers. Daily personal reading time for older kids, story time for the younger ones, circle time and my reading to them, brings the magic of imagination to life. I strongly believe nurturing our children from a young age, will build amazing self confident adults. Recently I had the opportunity to customize 2 new items for our space. The children’s table has been painted with chalkboard paint, allowing the little ones a constant space to build on their creativity and artistic style. The quiet room’s galaxy headboard gives children something mesmerizing to look at while going down for a nap, or some...thing to focus on when needing a reset time during a big emotion moment. Wednesday we had an absolute blast at the park, H was so gentle and caring while showing Melody how to pick up a ladybug we had a blast trying to climb a tree and played up a storm. Fall is such a beautiful season, one of our favourite things here at Baby Bugs Dayhome is learning all about it. We don’t shy away from the crunching of leaves; or from the outpouring of bugs, looking for the last harvest before winter. Instead we embrace the changes and crunch along with them.... I am so lucky to work alongside these children, helping to build on their compassion, kindness and intrigue.
