LUMBAR STENOSIS: THE CLUSTER OF COOK Like mentioned in the last video, lumbar stenosis is a secondary disc-related disorder. Narrowing of the vertebral canal, i...ntervertebal foramen or lateral recess is caused due to hypertrophy of the facet joints and/or the ligamentum flavum. This narrowing is usually increased with lumbar extension and axial loading and can lead to compression of the spinal cord or nerve root, which is another cause for lumbosacral radicular syndrome. The cluster of Cook can be used in the diagnosis of lumbar spinal stenosis amongst patients with back pain with or without leg pain. It cosists of 5 findings that you can obtain during history-taking. If none of those 5 items are positive the chance for your patient to have lumbar stenosis is reduced by a ratio of 0.19. If at least 4 of those items are positive, the chance for your patient to have lumbar stenosis is increased by a ratio of 4.6. Most of our practitioners provide KINESIOLOGY TAPING as adjunct therapy. How It Works 1. Turn down the volume on pain... More specifically, it runs interference on pain. Ever whack your shin and rub it, and suddenly realize you feel better? RockTape on the skin can interfere with painful signals which are directed to the brain. When the signals arriving to the brain are altered, it does not produce the sensation of pain. When kinesiology tape is properly applied, many of our customers call it magic or think that it fixed their injury instantly. In fact, it helps to change how your body interprets pain, turning down the pain volume that your body hears. RockTape does so by affecting the nerve endings and different types of receptors in the skin of the injured area. 2. Decompresses an area of swelling and inflammation When RockTape is applied to the skin, it has a microscopic lifting effect underneath the skin and between the many layers. This allows for greater blood flow to and from an area, all while allowing the by-products created by inflammation to be removed more quickly. It does so by allowing congested or compressed blood vessels (capillaries, lymph vessels, arteries, veins) to flow more freely. It also creates more room in between layers of fascia, muscle, fat, skin, and other structures. 3. It delays fatigue Research has shown that RockTape on skin can attenuate muscle fatigue. In rehab, this is very important, not only for the parts of your body that are currently hurting, but also for the surrounding areas as they help to pick up the slack for muscles that are currently not working well. 4. It normalizes muscle tone When someone is injured, fatigued, sick, or inflamed, the symphony of muscle action that normally takes place with great accuracy often falls out of tune. This can happen all over the body. For instance, research has shown that people who sprain their ankle tend to have altered activity of their hip muscle as a result. RockTape helps bring dormant muscle back to life and help calm down the overactive muscles. It helps your body coordinate movement as if it werent hurt, hence allowing it to heal properly. 5. It spreads physical stress Unlike conventional taping which is meant to prevent any movement at all, RockTape is meant to allow full movement of the taped area. Through elastic properties and quick recoil, RockTape can help distribute forces to other nearby areas through the fascia, ligaments, and even bones. (Above all information is from Rocktape Canada)

Our Chiropractors are certified in Contemporary Medical Acupuncture. "Contemporary Medical Acupuncture is mechanism-based, not disease-based. Therapeutic goals and treatment targets are selected based on the identified neurological dysfunctions contributing to the clinical presentation of the symptoms. Sometimes Contemporary Medical Acupuncture treatments result in transient amelioration or disappearance of the symptoms, and other times results in permanent resolution of the dysfunction, especially when dysregulation of the nervous system was the underlying pathophysiological mechanism."

#Repost @jen_simons_ . . . Check out this cool visual!... . WHY YOU SHOULD LIFT WITH YOUR LEGS . You've all heard that you should lift with your legs and not your back. But I feel like no one ever explains why? So I had some editing fun with this video from my buddy @jake.price.dc out in Houston. . You see, it all comes down to physics. You have this thing called a "moment arm". This is the shortest distance from the axis of rotation (hip joint here) and the line of force from whatever your lifting. A longer moment arm means the weight is relatively heavier and more strenuous to lift because the load is further away. Shorter is the opposite. . To understand better hold a 10 pound weight by your side and then extend your arm fully. You'll find the latter to be heavier because the weight is further away. . So when you keep the load far away, it's harder to lift, more stress on your back, and harder to keep a stable spinal position. Not good! . Instead, get the load as close as possible, get tight and stable, and lift from there. That may have you squatting it up like the video or doing more of a deadlift motion. Either way, you want that weight as close as possible. . Share this with a friend and let's spread the word on better lifting mechanics. No more injuries from bad technique! .
