Right now is perhaps the most gorgeous time of year in the Purcells Cove Backlands. The swathes of huckleberry bushes are flaming red, their brilliance complime...nted by pops of yellow from changing birch leaves, and punctuated by the stark black trunks of burned Jack Pines. What lies in store for this globally rare ecosystem? Will Halifax Regional Municipality protect more of this stunning place, or allow further encroachment by development? The Backlands Coalition and Our HRM Alliance asked candidates running in District 11 (which covers much of the Backlands) what they would do to save the area, if they are elected.
